One of the big games of 2011 gets a free demo on May 3 and a new contest with $12,000 in prizes. THQ’s Red Faction: Armageddon, which shoots its way to stores for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on June 7, will be available early for Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers courtesy of the new playable demo. THQ is also sponsoring a “Countdown to Win” contest that runs from now through launch and will reward lucky players with $12,000 in prizes. Electronic Arts is about to get a second wind for its action-based video game based on the second-to-last Harry Potter film. After earning over $940 million at the global box office, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 arrives on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital Download this April 15th from Warner Home Video and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution. Setting the stage for the much anticipated theatrical release of  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 this summer, the entire ensemble cast is back for this must-see seventh installment of the top-grossing motion picture franchise in history, based on the best-selling book series by J.K. Although Walt Disney Studios’ TRON: Legacy has become a global box office smash, Disney Interactive Studios’ TRON: Evolution video games have not been able to capitalize on that success. Last year, Ubisoft’s James Cameron’s AVATAR: The Game, also had trouble reaching a mainstream audience. But for Disney, the TRON game has resulted in the closure of the Vancouver game studio, Propaganda Games. Disney already shut down production of the new Pirate of the Caribbean role-playing game last October, which was originally slated to ship this summer in tandem with the new 3D film, Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides.

Sony Computer Entertainment America has shipped Invizimals for PSP. Developed by Novarama and Sony’s Liverpool Studio, Invizimals enables players to find, capture and battle virtual monsters hiding throughout the real-world environment by incorporating a camera for the PSP system (included with the game). Players can point the camera behind sofas, into corners, and under bushes to find virtual monsters on their PSP system screen. Once captured, players take their creatures into battle for a unique, handheld augmented reality experience.

Jackson already has a new dancing game from Ubisoft coming out this year called The Michael Jackson Experience. Now he’s getting an entire virtual planet. SEE Virtual Worlds, an entertainment company developing a virtual reality universe of connected planets tied to licensed franchises, has signed a deal with the Michael Jackson Estate to publish Planet Michael.
