Media: Monolith Soft's Xenoblade - Trailer

Nintendo team up once again with the folks who brought you Baten Kaitos for another epic-looking RPG...

Monolith Soft's Xenoblade has come quite a way since being teased to the world as Monado: Beginning of the World at E3 last year.

Nintendo teased Xenoblade earlier this year with the opening of a placeholder website which yielded very little. Then came reports that the massive game world would be set upon the corpses of two gigantic gods who died fighting each other long ago.

Now, we can bring you what we'd call a 'mild-quality video of the game in action. Whilst it doesn't reveal much about the story or gameplay, it does hint at the massive scope of the game and some of the intense dangers our protagonists can look forward to facing.

For those wondering what the dialogue is going on about, here's a rough translation:

"Long ago, when this world was nothing more than endless sea and unbroken sky no matter where you went, two giant gods were born -- Kyoshin and Kishin. The gods fought for their lives. And then, they became corpses. Now, after many tens of thousands of days and nights..."

Xenoblade is due out in Japan in the first half of this year. A western release has yet to be confirmed.

Looks great, let's hope Nintendo don't send it out to die.

Well, it remains to be seen as to whether the game is epic in gameplay as well, or no.

Though, this IS Nitendo... I'm sure it'll be dumbed down for the masses.

sorry I don't comprehend. Yes it is true that N avoid blood and tits on their games (and this game has no blood at all) but this has nothing to do with gameplay. Which game have they dumbed down recently? In fact I think that the Metroid Prime was turned from a generic corridor shooter to one of the best games ever made. If anything it can be argued that they give a considerable amount of freedom to their 1st and 2nd party divisions.

...however I would like to know who called the shots on Disaster.

Come off it, this is freaking Monolith! Nintendo will help them out where they can, but they certainly won't cramp their style.

Nintendo, or should I say their numbskull American CEO Reggie Fils-Aime, completely hung Monolith Soft out to dry on Disaster.
He openly admitted at the time that they (NOA) were waiting to see how the game performed in Europe before bothering to release it in the US, so 'concerned' was he with the games quality (yet the glut of shovelware that plagues the Wii seems to be ok).
Publicly dissing your own first party's initial attempts on the Wii? Lame.

Disaster wasn't perfect, but it was a very good game and didn't deserve to be dismissed by some clueless idiot CEO whose every utterance is an embarassment to diehard Nintendo fans worldwide.

I hope Xenoblade fares better...

In line with the above criticisms, Reggie lost all credibility when he labelled Twilight Princess as the greatest Zelda game ever made which was blunt misleading and deceptive conduct as the game ended uo being one of the biggest disappointments of the past decade.

Regarding Xenoblade though, with Final Fantasy XIII being the biggest letdown this year thus far, Xenoblade has an opportunity to be this years greatest RPG and that will be quite an achievement to outperform the latest installment of what is universally regarded as the greatest RPG series of all time in Final Fantasy. Does Wii even have an RPG other than Little King Story and Fire Emblem Gamecube port? Should manage to scrape through 500k in sales.

@Sol,

"(Twilight Princess) ended up being one of the biggest disappointments of the past decade."

In your (and some critics') humble opinion. Personally, it's one of my favourite games of all time, and definitely my favourite Zelda.

So, I think Reggie was right. Did you ever consider the possibility that others might genuinely enjoy a game more than you do? Or that a Metacritic score doesn't affect most people's enjoyment of a game in the slightest? Just wondering.

As for Xenoblade though, what with this and The Last Story, things are looking good for RPG nuts like me.

@Sol

A person can lose all their professional credibility by uttering their personal opinion?

WELL, I know someone who's next in line for THAT treatment!
