I actually liked the first Hack. Because of the original and interesting story you almost forgot that the game was a standard RPG. Could the second part in this trilogy compete with the other RPG’s or does it lack new ideas?

Hack is a perfect example of a typical RPG for the hardcore fans. While other gamers who normally never play a RPG can enjoy Final Fantasy, they will not likely pick up a game like Hack. It’s probably just a little too boring, and well, I don’t blame them. Don’t get the wrong idea, I enjoyed playing Infection. It’s just that some gamers might not see the fun in Hack.

If I talk about utter dullness, I talk about incompetent leveldesign. Come enjoy the most boring dungeons in the whole gaming world. Doesn’t really matter whether you go right, upstairs, left or downstairs because everything looks the same. While I was travelling in “The World”, I noticed that Hack is just an unoriginal RPG like those which were made ten years ago. I might be blinded because of the story a couple months ago, but I don’t feel the same about my second visit. It just isn’t right. You’re still a character in the popular MMORPG called “The World”. We all know something is terribly wrong in this MMORPG. Friends lose conscious after playing too much, parts of the game are taken over by hackers and many other strange events are still occurring. You must explore “The World” just to find out it’s getting more dangerous than you could ever imagine.

The game begins where the first part stopped. It’s necessary that you know what happened in the first game. If you think you'll enjoy this game, we recommend buying Infection first. In a couple of minutes, you are sent to an old dungeon where you can only get lost. And let me tell you, these dungeons are unbelievably boring. The first dungeon is not only boring, it leads you to absolutely nothing, a dead end. The fights are the same as in Infection, a hybrid between Final Fantasy and Zelda. This works fine, although your friends seem to be players from an old hospital or something. They can not heal themselves and the only thing they can do is walk towards enemies with the silly imagination that they’re friends.

The graphics aren’t special, like they weren’t gorgeous in the first game. The characters are much nicer. They have a special appeal which I haven’t seen in many games lately. Unfortunately, they drown in a sea of uninspired settings, boring fields with a tree here and an enemy there, and dungeons which made me cry. Why play Hack? Maybe because you really liked the first part, or maybe even because you like to play every RPG.

Well… Hack… You can say a lot about this game, yet so little at the same time. An unoriginal and standard RPG which is blessed with an original storyline. Without the story it’s just quite sad. There are better RPG’s on the market, and this game has nothing to do with a master like Final Fantasy. Only for the fans and people who like to do boring things in their spare time.
