Lawrence Auriana was born to Frank and Jean Auriana in East Harlem, New York, in 1944.  Mr. Auriana and his wife, Irene, met in 1962 and were married in 1969.  They reside in Greenwich, Connecticut with their daughter, Christina.

Mr. Auriana’s business career began in 1965, as an investment analyst for General Reinsurance Corporation.  In 1975, he joined Hans Utsch, providing special situation research for institutional investors.  He also became active as a venture capitalist particularly in the areas of telecommunications and computer software.  Mr. Auriana is Chairman of Mediware Information Systems, a clinical information systems company and is a member of the Board of Directors of Chitogenics, a biotech company.

Since 1986, Lawrence Auriana, along with his partner Hans Utsch, have managed the Federated Kaufmann Fund.  They have orchestrated one of the most successful track records in the history of mutual funds.  According to Morningstar, The Federated Kaufmann Fund is the #1 performing mid-cap growth fund for the past fifteen years and Lipper Analytical ranked the Fund the #1 multi-cap growth fund for the last year.

His charitable efforts include serving as President of the Columbus Citizens Foundation, President of The Boys’ Towns of Italy and a member of the Board of Directors for the National Italian American Foundation.  Lawrence serves on The Bush Endowment National Advisory Council (this council oversees The George and Barbara Bush Endowment for Innovative Cancer Research at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center) .

Mr. Auriana provides support for many other charitable and cultural organizations, including, the Italian Welfare League, The Coalition of Italo-American Associations, The National Museum of Catholic Art and History, the Antonio Meucci Memorial Committee, Comunita Cenacolo and The Yorke Street Project.

Mr. Auriana is a member of the Giglio Society of East Harlem and co-sponsored “Heaven touches Brooklyn in July”, a documentary about the history of the Giglio.  Most recently, Lawrence and Hans have agreed to sponsor the Opera “Memet” by Giovanni Battista Sammartini, presented by the City of Bologna to the City of New York, to be performed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, on October 27, 2001.

Italian culture is at the heart of Mr. Auriana’s life, and he is proud that Italy has graced the world with fine cars, movies, food and music.  “Italians are driven by passion,” he says, “it is what defines their culture.”  Lawrence is also a partner with Nicola Paone, the well-known Italian singer and songwriter, in the Nicola Paone Restaurant.  A former amateur racecar driver, Mr. Auriana has an extensive collection of Italian cars and Italian motorcycles, nurturing a passion that began when he was only twelve years old.  He also owns a collection of Italian, neo-realist movie posters.
