Québec
Tree planting ceremony to mark
the friendship between the Cities of Shawinigan

A delegation of 50 Hamiltonians were invited and
warmly welcomed by the City of Shawinigan to celebrate
its 100th Anniversary as a City. Highlights
of the visit included a tree planting ceremony,
a welcome picnic, official reception, tours of the
city, and gift [1,
2]
exchange. The delegates were billeted in homes,
and many friendships were formed and continue to
this day.
For some the visit was a time of reunion, of friendships
which began during Hamilton’s sesquicentennial
celebrations when approximately 100 citizens of
Shawinigan were welcomed to Hamilton.

Maanshan is located in the
eastern part of Anhui province, and on the southern
bank of Yangtze River. It is approximately 400 km
north-west of Shanghai. The city has a lot of history.
It is home of one of the largest steel plants in
China. [

The Anhui
University of Technology is also located
in Maanshan. Anhui University is currently seeking
to establish a teaching exchange program with Hamilton.

Sakura
Tree ceremony

To mark the friendship between Japan and Canada,
the City of Hamilton was gifted with sakura (Japanese
cherry trees ) which were planted at Bay Front and
McQueston Parks. The early blossoming sakura are
symbols of peace and friendship.
Hamilton has been twinned with Fukuyama since 1975,
and with amalgamation has gained a second Japanese
twin city, Kaga, which is the twin of Dundas.
