Newcursive is a phonetic alphabet for writing English, particularly English as pronunced with Received Pronunciation (RP). It was invented by John Kay after he saw the Shaw alphabet for the first time and realised that not only was it difficult for English speakers to adapt to because the letters have little relationship with any English ones, but also that it lacks a cursive version. Many of the consonants in Newcursive are derived from their Latin equivalents, and the vowels are phonetic and derived from the IPA equivalents.
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They
are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another
in a spirit of brotherhood.
