THE REPUBLIC OF KOSOVOflag_kosovo

Montenegro recognized Republic of Kosovo officially on 9 October 2008. Government of Montenegro made this decision bearing in mind the European and Euro-Atlantic prospects of Montenegro and  the entire region, and in accordance with the strategic goal of Montenegro aimed towards fostering lasting regional stability and developing good neighbourly relations. Such a postition is in line with  Montenegro's belief that the future of all the countries in the region is grounded on their readiness to build relations  on modern foundations, not impeeded by historical prejudices and past legacies.

Montenegro has good working relations with the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, and Montenegro recognizes Kosovo passports as of July 2008.

Montenegro supported a membership of Kosovo in the International Monetary Fund at the voting of the IMF Board of Governors in May 2009. Montenegro also supported full membership of Kosovo in the World Bank, which will enter into effect in June 2009, after Kosovo will have formally joined the IMF.

ECONOMIC RELATIONS

Overall exchange of goods between Montenegro and  the Republic of Kosovo in 2008 amounted to  40.95 million € (export amounted to 37.8 million €, whilst the import amounted to 3.15 million €).
