CUBAN President Raúl Castro Ruz and Army Corps
General Julio Casas Regueiro, minister of the FAR,
yesterday received Army General Nikolai Egorovich
Makarov, first deputy minister of defense and chief
of the general staff of the Armed Forces of the
Russian Federation. Makarov is on an official visit
to Cuba.
The
meeting covered different topics in the context of
growing bilateral relations and a brief discussion
on the international situation.
Raúl asked the visitor to transmit greetings to
President Medvedev, the Russian military, and the
entire nation, united with Cuba in a solid
friendship.
Makarov thanked Raúl for the warm welcome
received by the delegation that he is heading and
for the opportunity to converse with the principal
Cuban leaders and military officers.
Also present at the meeting were Army Corps
General Alvaro López Miera, deputy minister of the
Revolutionary Armed Forces and chief of the general
staff; Division General Leonardo Andollo Valdés,
second chief of the general staff; and Brigade
General Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez, head of the MINFAR
Foreign Affairs Department.
The Russian delegation was composed of Mijail L.
Kaminin, Russian ambassador in Cuba; Lieutenant
General Alexander V. Shliajturov; Major General
Viacheslav M. Proshkin and Colonel Vladimir A.
Androsov, Russian military, naval, and air force
attaché in Cuba.
