“THIS visit will strengthen relations between our
two countries even more,” affirmed Wu Bangguo,
member of the Permanent Committee of the Political
Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party and president
of the Permanent Committee of the 11th National
People’s Assembly, who arrived in Havana for an
official and friendly visit yesterday, in response
to an invitation from Cuba’s National Assembly of
People’s Power.
Bangguo, who is in the country until September 3,
was welcomed at the José Martí International Airport
by Ricardo Alarcón, president of Parliament.
In a
written statement, the Chinese leader noted that the
visit of President Hu Jintao last year gave added
impetus to mutual links in all aspects.
He
emphasized his plans for wide-ranging talks with
Cuban leaders on bilateral matters and issues of
interest, and his conviction that the traditional
friendship and cooperation between the two Parties,
states and peoples would continue developing.
Also
present at the reception of the Chinese leader were
Jaime Crombet, vice president of Parliament; Deputy
Foreign Minister Ana Teresita González; Caridad
Diego, president of the Cuba-China Parliamentary
Group; and Ramón Pez Ferro, president of the
National Assembly’s International Relations
Committee.
The
delegation headed by Wu Bangguo was joined by Zhao
Rongijan, Chinese ambassador in Havana.
During his stay, Bangguo is to have talks with
Alarcón and authorities of the Cuban Communist Party
and government, and tour places of historic and
social interest.
