Raúl presides over
welcoming ceremony for Tanzanian president
CUBAN
President Raúl Castro Ruz headed the official
reception ceremony on Tuesday for Jakaya Mrisho
Kikwete, president of the United Republic of
Tanzania.
After playing the national anthems of both
countries and a review of the Honor Guard, the
Presidents held official talks which included the
participation of Esteban Lazo Hernández, vice
president of the Council of State.
The exchange was in line with the solid
friendship forged by leaders of the stature of Fidel
Castro and Julius Nyerere. The talks reaffirmed the
positive state of bilateral ties and the will to
strengthen them even more. They covered the
challenges that both countries face in relation to
economic and social development, the consequences of
climatic change and issues of an international
nature.
Kikwete praised cooperation with Cuba in the
education, health, and other sectors and confirmed
Tanzania’s continued support for the fight against
the blockade. Raúl confirmed Cuba’s will to continue
cooperating with that sister African nation, which
our people thank for its unwavering solidarity.
A working meeting between both delegations
covering matters of common interest took place
simultaneously.
