Is MyCheats free?
Yes! All the features on MyCheats are free. In fact, sometimes we'll hold contests offering monetary incentives for your work!

Why make an account?
There are many features available only to MyCheats registered members. Registered members have the privileges of submitting FAQs and Codes, editing SuperGuides, as well as full access to the Messageboards and Game Help.

Registered users have the following privileges:
* edit and create new entries for the SuperGuide.
* submit Codes and FAQs.
* upload multimedia content such as images and videos.
* participate on the messageboards, with the ability to create new topics.
* acquire reputation and ranking points.

To register, all you need is a valid email address, but be sure the address is a valid -- after you've registered, you must activate your account by replying to an automated email.

How can I change my GameFace?
A person's GameFace, a picture representation of themselves on MyCheats, can be changed by clicking on the Upload New button, located on your profile page. Once you've selected your picture, scroll down to the bottom of the page, where you'll see a submit button. Click it and your uploaded picture will be your Avatar pic!

Before uploading your picture, make sure the picture follows the acceptable formats of jpg and gifs, and that it is less than 1 meg in size. Following these instructions will ensure your uploads will not be corrupted.

How can I change my e-mail address and/or password?
If you don't remember your MyCheats password, click on the "Lost Password" function on the Sign-in Pop-up window.

I can't upload my picture. Why?
MyCheats accepts images if they are in JPG and GIF format and no more than 1 megabyte in size. The contribution will be rejected if it violates either one of those rules.

What is a Tracked Game?
Tracked Games allows you to "bookmark" the games that you're following, whether you're tracking the progress of a messageboard thread, or if there are any new updates for your favorite game.

To track a game, go to a game page, say, Halo 2, then click on the "Track It" button. This will bring up a list of options, from which you can specify the content you want to subscribe. When you're done, be sure to click on the Submit button to save all changes. The top 5 most recent content items are displayed on your Tracked Games page, while older content is pushed back.

What are Track Boards?
Are there any MyCheats message boards you find yourself posting on a lot? Tracking boards gives you easy access to them, plus lets you see when they are most recently updated.

At a game's Forum page, press the Track Board button to track it. Tracked Boards are accessed through the Profile Section, in the Tracked Boards tab.

Removing a board is simple, too. At your Tracked Boards page is a remove board link.

CONTRIBUTING CONTENT back to top
How Do I Contribute?
You must be a registered member to contribute. If you're already a 1UP.com user, your login and password will work on MyCheats.

On the top left of almost every page, the bright green "Add Your Cheats" button will serve as your go-to-spot for all your contribution needs. Yes, some people may confuse "cheats" as simply a word for game codes, but we here at MyCheats see it as something a little different -- cheats is simply an umbrella term encompassing every type of content that can help gamers with their games.

Once you've clicked on the Add Your Cheats button, a page will pop-up asking what type of content you'll like to contribute. Choose the appropriate content fields, select the desired game title for the system, and begin the upload of your contribution.

How can I remove my contributions or report problems?
A delete link sits at the bottom of each contribution. Use it to delete any of your work.

When you see something wrong with site, whether it's spam or something malicious, use the Flag link to report the incident. The report will be reviewed and the appropriate action will happen immediately.

If you still have problems, email us at MCFeedback@MyCheats.com.

CHEATS back to top
What are Cheats?
Cheats are tips or secrets to help you beat or get more out of your gameplay, ranging from codes that you enter to hidden items that you can find. Unlike FAQs or SuperGuides, cheats are generally simple solutions -- not in-depth strategies

Code
A Code is usually accomplished by pressing certain button combinations or typing certain phrases and is most often entered at a designated spot in the game (such as the title screen or pause menu). Codes most often do things like provide unlimited lives, invincibility, or warps to later levels in the game.

Easter Egg
Easter Eggs are secret bonuses hidden in the game by its developers. These are usually discovered not by entering any secret codes, but by discovering them in the actual game worlds.

Glitch
A Glitch is something discovered in the game that exploits the code to function in a way not intended by its designers. Usually, it's a way to get unique results in a game that you normally shouldn't be able to.

Password
A Password is a word or phrase that is entered at a designated entry screen in the game that allows you to accomplish something special. These usually allow you access to new areas of the game or new characters to play as.

Secret
A Secret is a trick that is discovered that improves gameplay yet is not obvious. It usually includes anything non-obvious, such as hidden items, unique tips to improving your character or gameplay, or secret boss weakpoints.

Tip
A Tip is a general suggestion for improving or easing gameplay. These are usually very general and don't require any special button codes or passwords; they're more basic tactics for doing better at the game.

Unlockable
An Unlockable is any item, feature, area, or character that can be unlocked by completing a specific in-game task. These usually come as a direct result of accomplishing the specific task.

FAQs back to top
What's a FAQ?
FAQs are unique strategies for a game written by individual authors. These can range from walkthroughs, to boss help, to even specific character guides. Also, our walkthroughs allow HTML, so you can add videos and images, and format your FAQ however you prefer!

How can I update my Walkthrough/FAQ?
You must be logged into the site before you can edit your FAQ. Once you're logged in, bring up your Private Profile page, which can be instantly accessed when you hit the "My Page" link at the top-right of the screen where the log-in menu is found. Now you'll be on your Contributions History page with all the work you've done for MyCheats. Find your FAQ entry, and hit the Edit button. Once you submit the updated text, your FAQ will reflect the changes instantly.

You may email updates, too. Email updates to FAQS@Mycheats.com. Make sure to specify your MyCheats profile name, and if this submission is an update or a new FAQ. Then insert your FAQ as an attachment.

Can I use HTML code in my FAQs?
Yes! In fact, we encourage it to make your FAQ stand out from the others. From simple formatting (bold/italic text) to layouts (tables), you can use HTML to maximize your FAQ's potential. One thing to note is that our editor auto-formats paragraph breaks, so there is no real need to use paragraph tags in your HTML.

My FAQ looks weird, like "?Ã??." What do I do?
Don't freak out. It's not MyCheats' fault. The missing apostrophes, the incorrect formatting issues, the seemingly mysterious gremlins -- these common problems plaguing FAQs are attributed to improperly encoded FAQs. But don't worry; the problem is simple to correct: simply encode the text as UTF-8:

First, load up Microsoft Word and copy your FAQ into the document.

Choose File -> Save
From the drop down menu, choose Plain Text (*.txt).
Save your file
Right after you hit save, a pop-up will ask you what method you prefer when encoding the file. Choose other encoding.
Now, weed through list to find Unicode (UTF-8).
Also, check the box Allow Character Substitution before you hit the Submit button.

Yay! You're all done. Open the document and paste away without fear of those evil gremlins.

My FAQ looks like one long sentence. What can I do?
The formatting problems occur when your FAQ isn't set up with Line Breaks. Take note, Microsoft Users:

Choose File -> Save
From the drop down menu, choose Plain Text (*.txt).
Save your file
Right after you hit save, a pop-up will ask you what method you prefer when encoding the file. Choose other encoding.
Weed through list to find Unicode (UTF-8).
Here's the important part: check the box for Insert Line Breaks.
Then check the box Allow Character Substitution before you hit the Submit button.

Your FAQ is now properly formatted for proper viewing.

SUPER GUIDE back to top
What's a SuperGuide?
A SuperGuide is massive strategy guide that everyone can contribute to. It's better than a standard strategy guide since it contains more info, and often has videos and screens to actually show how to beat the game.

How do you add Flash Video into a SuperGuide?
First, be sure you click a field inside the Content box. Now, click on the and a small window will come up for you to enter the location of the .swf file, not the direct url. Now, just press Insert and shape the size of the video to your desire.

At times, though, finding the exact .swf address for the video can be difficult, if not unintuitive. Thankfully, there are many video hosting sites that provide the .swf address. Our own GameVideos.com, part of the 1UP network, has the .swf location in their "Add Your Video To Your Site" source code, though you'll need to weed through the html code to find it. Found below the GV video player, click the "Add Your Video To Your Site" to bring up the source code for the embedded video. Now, copy-paste the entire code onto a word document editor, say, notepad. Amid the alien-looking html code, the .swf is buried alongside the embed src="" video code. The swf is a long url, so pay close attention when copying the entire address.

Another method is to look at the Flash player source code. If you're using FireFox, hold down the left-click mouse button and highlight the Flash video. Right click on the mouse to bring up the options menu, where you'll find the View Selection Source option. A pop-up window of the Flash video appears, with the Flash file source code highlighted in blue. Look through the blue highlights to find the .swf code.

How do I insert an image?
A: Located on the third row of the WyzWig editor, appearing as a tree icon , the Insert/Edit Image button adds pictures to the SuperGuide. As long as you have a picture host providing the necessary bandwidth, images will show up in the SuperGuide.

Don't have a host? MyCheats can host it for you. Click on the Images tab, and upload away. To find the picture URL, click on the picture, then right-click with your mouse, and choose Properties or Copy Image Location.

To insert a picture, click , then copy and paste the exact URL of the picture in the Image URL box.

You can adjust the picture size to your preference. Here's a rundown on the different customization settings:
Dimensions: Changes the size of the picture.
Border: Creates a black border around the picture.
Vertical Space: Adjusts the top and bottom space between paragraphs.
Horizontal Space: Adjusts the space on the left and right of the picture.

But if you're not comfortable adjusting the numerical values, you may change the size of the picture by dragging and stretching it with the mouse. Click the picture to bring up several white boxes around the perimeter of the picture, and then select one of the boxes to manipulate the dimensions.

How do I add a Section/Page?
Click on "Add New Section" on the SuperGuide Contents sidebar, located on the far right, to bring up the Add New Section dialog. You'll be asked to name the title of the section, and where to place it. Note: all SuperGuides start with a permanent Introduction page, but, as it grows, you can choose anywhere in the guide to add a section. Click Submit to create the section and start editing the blank page.

How do I reorder a Section?
If you think a page would be better towards the beginning or end of the SuperGuide, or you made a mistake and need to shift the page up or down, you can easily do so in the Contents sidebar. Just click "Re-order Sections" and you'll see the Re-order dialog. Select the section with the radio buttons and click either the up or down arrows to move it above or below the section(s) next to it. Then just click Submit and the changes will appear right afterward.

Is there a way to edit other people's work and my own?
To begin writing a SuperGuide page or to revise an existing one, simply click the "Edit" link next to the section in the Contents sidebar. You will then go to the WYSIWYG editor to begin creating or editing the page. If you're familiar with word processing or HTML programs, this should be fairly easy to use. Hover your mouse cursor over the buttons to see their function. Note that you cannot use raw HTML in a SuperGuide page; you must use the WYSIWYG editor to format the text.

FORUMS back to top
What are Forums?
A forum is a messageboard where people post tips, share strategies, or otherwise just discuss this game. For specific game help, though, click on the Game Help tab for this game.

You are free to browse through the boards, but if you want to post or participate in a thread, then you must log-in with your password and username. Don't have an account? Sign up for one. Membership is free.

How do I post a New Topic?
A: Starting a new topic is easy enough. Click on the "Post New Topic" bottom, located at the top right of the Boards page, and start discussing away.

What's the Track Board button?
Are there any MyCheats message boards you find yourself posting on a lot? Tracking boards gives you easy access to them, plus lets you see when they are most recently updated.

At a game's Forum page, press the Track Board button to track it. Tracked Boards are accessed through the Profile Section, in the Tracked Boards tab.

Removing a board is simple, too. At your Tracked Boards page is a remove board link.

GAME HELP back to top
What's Game Help?
Remember when FAQs were actually a list of frequently answered questions and not a long walkthrough of a game?

Game Help, in the spirit of FAQs, is an intuitive and fast medium for all your gaming-related questions. It is, essentially, an on-topic board for any questions about a game, containing a question-and-answer format. Perhaps you want to know the details of an item in Animal Crossing, but the search engines turns up with no relative results. Post it on Game Help, and when someone answers your post, you'll be emailed with an answer from our community's experts.

The answers will also be stickied on the game's Game Help, so other people can benefit from the information exchanged. And if you feel that you can help other people in a diligent and helpful way, sign up to become one of the game's expert helpers. Helping one another is what our community thrives on!

What does "helper" mean?
You have elected yourself as an expert of the game and gamers who have questions can rely upon you to answer them. Whenever someone needs help and asks a question in Game Help, Mycheats sends an email to all the game helpers, in hopes of an answer. Also, game helpers will be rewarded with points when they answer questions successfully, which will help with their overall reputation and rank on Mycheats.

How do I set my Game Help email frequency?
Go to your account and click on the Profile tab. Scroll down to the area marked Game Helper Status. There will be a list of games for which you are a Helper. Now, click one of the selection boxes under Email Status to set your frequency of questions.

How do I cancel my Game Helper status?
Go to your account and click on the Profile tab. Scroll down to the area marked Game Helper Status. There will be a list of games for which you are a Helper. You can just click on Remove, and you will no longer be emailed once a new gamer asks you a Help question.

VIDEOS back to top
What are Videos?
MyCheats allows you to upload your own videos for others to see. These can range from strategy videos, to game tournaments, to even funny videos related to the game. As long as it's something relevant to the game, we want your videos!

Videos must be below 100 meg in size and be one of the following video formats: Quicktime, MPG, AVI, WMV, and MOV.

IMAGES back to top
What are Images?
Images are great assets in providing additional information that normally can't be easily presented. Upload a map or two of the locations of all the secrets and unlockables, or upload a funny picture of your favorite character. Got a cool wallpaper? Share it amongst the people who would really care -- the people playing the game!

Images must be in JPG or GIF format and be less than 1 megabyte in size. Otherwise we won't accept it! You can use a number of graphics programs, such as Adobe Photoshop or the free picture viewer Infranview (http://www.irfanview.com), to resize and reformat your pictures.

FILES back to top
What are Files?
Files are a great way to get more out of your games, whether they're game saves to skip you to later points in a game or user medications (Mods) that alter the game in cool new ways. You can upload your own files to the site -- the only restriction is that we require files to be under 100 MB in size.
