Mike Emrick

Mike "Doc" Emrick, has served as the play-by-play voice of the New Jersey Devils on MSG Plus since 1993. This is Emrick's second stint in this role, having previously held the position from 1983-86. He also authors his own weekly audio column, “Emrick's Angle,” for NHL.com and serves as the main play-by-play voice for NHL coverage on both NBC and VERSUS.

A veteran NHL play-by-play announcer for over 30 years, Emrick began his hockey career in 1973 as radio and public relations director for the IHL Port Huron Flags. Since then he has become known as the voice of hockey, having called NHL games for all major television networks in the United States and CSTV in Canada, including 21 consecutive Stanley Cup Playoffs, 11 Stanley Cup Finals and eight NHL All-Star Games. He was also the lead announcer for both men's and women's hockey at the 2006 and 2010 Olympic Games.

Emrick has received 11 New York Emmy Award nominations and has won seven times for his play-by-play announcing. He was also honored with the 1997 National CableACE Award for best play-by-play and was the 101st recipient of the 2004 Lester Patrick Trophy, which is presented to an individual for his or her outstanding service to hockey in the United States. In 2008, Emrick was recognized as a distinguished "Honoree" of the Hockey Hall of Fame when he was presented with the Foster Hewitt Award. He is a member of the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame selection committee, vice president of the NHL Broadcaster's Association and was editor of the NHL Pronunciation Guide from 1983-2006.

Emrick earned a Ph.D. in Radio/TV-Film from Bowling Green State University where he was given the nickname "Doc," which players and fans alike continue to call him today. He currently resides in Michigan with his wife, Joyce, and their three dogs and four horses.
