One of my favorite scenes in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek is when Kirk, Sulu and Olson “space jump” from Pike's shuttle down to the Romulan energy drill. Free falling from space through Earth's atmosphere seems like it would be a thrill-seekers dream and now Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner is actually going to give it a try. Read more...

DC’s The Source blog has been alight today with artistic change announcements on several of its titles, including the return of a 90s fan-favorite to the book that helped define his career.
First in the game of artistic musical chairs is Jesus Saiz, who will leave BIRDS OF PREY to take over the indestructible Mitch Shelley’s story in the pages of RESURRECTION MAN. Saiz’ first issue of the title will be May’s #9, which will pit the hero against the Suicide Squad.
“I’m going to miss BIRDS OF PREY immensely, although it’s also true that I was dying to work on the Dark line of books,” Saiz told The Source. “There’s some very interesting stuff happening in these books, and I’ve always considered horror / creating dark settings are some of my stronger areas as an artist, and I really haven’t had many chances to flex those muscles working in this genre during my career.” Read more...

Check out the cast lineup for the upcoming DTDVD feature Justice League: Doom: you've got Tim Daly as Superman, Michael Rosenbaum as the Flash, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman, Carl Lumbly as Martian Manhunter, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, and of course, Kevin Conroy as Batman (plus Bumper Robinson joining the cast as Cyborg). If you watched the Justice League animated series and its followup, Justice League: Unlimited, it'd look like a reunion of the voice actors who've made their marks as the modern animated incarnations of all of these characters. And that's effectively what it is.
After the jump, see how the Justice League has swapped out voice actors over the years, and how Justice League: Doom will end up sounding like nice burst of nostalgia from the beginning of the last decade.

If you’ve been a devoted MTV watcher as long as we have, you’re probably very familiar with David Wain. The actor/writer/director started off on TV as part of MTV’s groundbreaking sketch comedy show The State, and since then has made his name as one third of the spin-off trio Stella, as well as directing hit movies like cult favorite Wet Hot American Summer, and general public favorite Role Models. All the while, he’s been steadily releasing seasons of his self-titled web series Wainy Days exclusively on MyDamnChannel since 2007; a show about a guy named David Wain pushing people to the ground and making out with hot women.
There’s a lot more to it, of course, but the series perfectly channels Wain’s absurd humor, and features a bevy of guest stars, ranging from Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks, to many, many members of The State. The entire first four seasons of the series will be hitting DVD on Valentine’s Day, along with some choice extras, including a cast reunion/pajama party filmed just for the DVD release. To find out more, as well a very short update on Wet Hot American Summer, read on:
MTV Geek: I’m curious to talk about your approach to Wainy Days... It seems like there’s a tone, and rules to the world, but what’s the main impetus for the series?
David Wain: The main impetus for me is more a way to express - in a way - the most personal corner of my work; which is specifically writing what I know, what my life outside of work has been about for most of my adult life. It’s meeting someone, meeting girls, and how embarrassing or bizarre, or tough funny that can be. Read more...

DC gave fans of the recently departed Smallville television show a surprise this morning when they announced the continuation of the series as a digital-first comic. SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 will pick up right where the show left off, with Clark Kent finally donning the iconic title and tights of Superman.
Written by Bryan Q. Miller with interior art by his frequent BATGIRL collaborator Pere Perez and digital covers by Cat Staggs, the book will be published digitally on April 13, 2012, with new digital chapters following weekly. Collected print versions, coupled with episode guides for the series, will begin release on May 16. The print edition will also feature covers by fan-favorite artist Gary Frank.
Miller previously worked on the pre-relaunch BATGIRL title starring Stephanie Brown, a character whose New 52 absence has been met with fan outcry. This marks Miller’s first published work with DC since the relaunch. Read more...

After nearly a decade of waiting, Marvel RPG fans can finally get back in the game. RPG publisher Margaret Weis Productions has taken over the dormant superhero license, and will be releasing the first volume of Marvel Heroic Roleplyaing later this month.
As a brand new effort that breaks away from previous efforts such as TSR's classic Marvel Superheroes RPG and Marvel's own Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game, this system from MWP will use a version of the Cortex Plus rules set made famous in the Leverage and Smallville RPGs.
