Super Meat Boy headed for mobile?
Team Meat is considering reworking indie hit Super Meat Boy for mobile devices; plans are to make "a reenvisioning of SMB made from scratch for touch[screen]".
Independent game developers Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes--also known as Team Meat--found critical and commercial success with the launch of platformer Super Meat Boy on Xbox Live Arcade in October 2010, reaching the milestone of more than 1 million units sold earlier this year.
Now, after launching the game on both the PC and Mac, Team Meat is ready to expand. Using their official Twitter account today, McMillen and Refenes revealed that they are working on a prototype of Super Meat Boy for "touch" devices.
Through a series of tweets about the announcement, Team Meat revealed that the prototype will not play like Super Meat Boy but will be reimagined from scratch for touch-screen devices. Talking about what the game will actually look like, Team Meat revealed that the prototype will be more akin to traditional games, rather than "simple" mobile games.
"It wont be a simple game like Doodle Jump--it will be a larger, more traditional game. It won't control like Super Meat Boy. We promise you we won't make a game with s***y touch controls."
McMillen and Refenes also tweeted that if the prototype doesn't work out, the team will move on to the next idea.
Meat Boy is on Linux as well...write it Gamestop and stop treating Linux like the MSM treats Ron Paul. It is relevant, it is growing rapidly and it makes a HUGE difference to people who understand it.
3DS and the Vita also have touchscreens so could before one of those two systems instead of being for phones.
i would buy it if it is on android XD
@wooooode - But then it wouldn't be Super Meat Boy.
I think something that was just time based that had you just hit one side of the screen or other with the character auto running could be cool if done right.
Game is amazing but way to percise for touchscreens.
Bring it to PS3 please!
@insanitycheck4, is this what you have been asking for?
Still waiting for Super Meat Boy on Wiiware...
Bet it would work great with a xperia play.
Didn't GS report a few months ago that Team Meat gave up Super Meat Boy to the fans and walked away from the game? I guess that news was incorrect.
Still no PSN support! So why should I care?
Playing SMB on a touch screen would be a lesson in anger management. But I have faith in Team Meat, so let's see what they come up with.
I can't see this game being played on a mobile phone or IPod. That's going to be tough to convert with the controls I think. The game is hard enough with a control pad. Super Meat Boy is an awesome game and should be played by everything who loves platforming games.
@hella_epic good point it ll be interesting to see how and if it works, its hard enough already, this ll make it super "hulk" hard
this was obviously gonna happen, good though it's made for phones and smaller devices
i love super meat boy, but with a touch screen, sorry but i dont think so.....
realease it on android map your ps3 controller to the touch buttons.....portable super meat boy without the inaccurate touch buttons :D
Super Meat Boy is one of my favourite games of all time, yet I have no problem saying this would suck big fat hairy monkey balls. SMB is all about perfect platforming and requires precision. Something that simply isn't possible without physical buttons.
lol it cant be done with a keyboard or a controller, how do we finish it with a touch screen???
Like it isn't hard enough with a controller.
super meat boy with a touch screen sounds kinda sketchy. The game was so precise I dont think anything but buttons will do.
I'll by that for a dollar
More super meat boy? Shut up and take my money!
