Is there anything that PopCap Games creates that ISN'T addicting?  Seriously.  We must've sat around for hours on end playing the holy hell out of Bejeweled 3 and mastering every bounce we possibly could out of Peggle.  But that's not enough, is it?  No, we have to unleash a full-scale war between plant life and the undead with the incredible strategy game Plants vs. Zombies.  Damn you, PopCap, I had stuff to do today!  But anyway, if you're not drawn in enough with the versions that are out there, they're releasing one that you can take anywhere with you on your PS Vita later this month.

Consoles and PC's have had a slow month interms of new AAA quality games arriving for your respected platform. While January got off to a slow start, it quickly recovered to bring us high quality tittles through digital distribution. Plenty of great downloadable arcade tittles were made available through XBLA, PSN and Steam, giving us many hidden gems on the digital marketplace. Let's look back at the games we reviewed over the past month.

It's a novel idea that's really catching on in the App Store -- re-releasing old-school arcade games as part of a collection, then offering potential buyers the option to choose what games they want to keep.  Capcom's done it, Atari has done it, and Farsight is working on it with its Pinball Arcade (which we previewed).  But we're surprised that Namco has taken so long to warm up to the idea, especially with its countless Museum releases.  Well, it finally came through with Namco Arcade, a game that has the "try before you buy" method with a few of its offerings.  So why does it feel like it wasn't fully thought out?

When you think "Batman" and "video game", you usually think of something dark, foreboding and completely involving, like last year's stellar release of Batman: Arkham City.  But you don't really think shooter, nor anything that goes tongue firmly in cheek, do you?  That's why it's so fascinating to see Monolith, the developers behind the F.E.A.R. series, go against type and create a game like Gotham City Impostors.  Not only is it something you'd never expect from the DC Comics Universe, but, holy rusted metal Batman, it's actually fun.

When SoulCalibur IV came out a few years ago for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, some players were disappointed by the series' jump to next-gen, even with the addition of nifty Star Wars characters.  (C'mon, Darth Vader versus Mitsurugi was pretty damn epic.)  But luckily, Namco realizes that some better balancing was needed, and SoulCalibur V brings it in spades, between some great new characters and the kind of multiplayer that will keep you addicted for some time.  It's just a shame that the single player content couldn't really keep up...

If there's a company that has proven that old-school games do big business, it's Konami.  A few years back, it brought back the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game to Xbox Live, attracting a whole new crowd to the old-school beat-em-up antics, complete with online play.  And last year, it continued to capitalize on such success with the enjoyable X-Men: The Arcade Game.  Next week, it'll be back once more with the long-overdue -- and highly requested -- The Simpsons Arcade.  And yes, it's officially coming, at least from what Sony says.

Before the New York Giants defeat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI (at least according to the Madden NFL 12 simulation), EA Sports is throwing its annual videogame bash at the Bud Light Hotel. NFL legends past and current will mingle with celebrities. And in addition to the 3-on-3 videogame tournament format, which was introduced last year to incorporate online team play into the mix, there will also be concerts featuring Nas and The Roots. New York’s other quarterback, the Jets’ Jeff Garcia, is a Madden Bowl regular and talks gaming in this exclusive video interview below.

In a series known for delivering one of the most cinematic experiences in all of interactive entertainment with an emphasis on high quality digital acting, BioWare is aiming to once again set a new bar with Mass Effect 3. BioWare unveiled the cast for Mass Effect 3, which ships Marc 6 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The ensemble will see the return of fan favorites, including Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man, Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale as Male and Female Shepard and will introduce Freddie Prinze, Jr. as James Vega, a marine who will help Commander Shepard take Earth back. Seth Green, who reprises his role as Joker, talks about the new game in this exclusive video interview.

Brandon Marshall set a Pro Bowl record with four touchdown receptions, covering 74, 29, 47 and 3 yards, in the annual Honolulu, Hawaii football contest. Marshall’s 47 yard catch is one for the highlight reel as he kicked the ball to himself while falling into the end zone. The Miami Dolphin receiver finished with six catches for 176 yards. He caught one touchdown pass apiece from Ben Roethlisberger and Phillip Rivers and two from Andy Dalton. Marshall is a big gamer and a regular attendee of EA Sports Madden Bowl before the Super Bowl. He talks gaming off the gridiron in this exclusive video interview below.

The digital pinball market is on the rise again, thanks to some savvy developments being handled by development teams.  No longer is it an embarrassing affair of crappy ball physics or lame table design.  No, these guys are dedicated.  Take Zen Studios, who have been pumping out quality releases with their Pinball FX 2 and Zen Pinball compilations.  And that's just the beginning, as Farsight Studios is preparing for its own pin assault later this spring with The Pinball Arcade.  Luckily for us, we got a taste of what the company has in mind...

First off, for the record, I personally wanted a Ravens vs. 49ers Super Bowl.  No offense against the teams that are in there now, but we've seen that match-up before, y'know?  Regardless, the Patriots and Giants will be meeting up for Super Bowl glory this Sunday.  However, EA Sports has already provided its own take on the big game, thanks to Madden NFL 12.  So...who wins?

Even though he sadly passed away a few years ago, the legend of Michael Jackson will never be forgotten.  The pop star brought us a number of classics over the years, and last year, Ubisoft opted to celebrate his legacy with the new game Michael Jackson: The Experience.  Now, he makes the journey to the PlayStation Vita in time for the system's launch next month.  But can the game still be a Thriller?

Well over a year after its release on the market, the Kinect motion device is really growing into its own for Xbox 360 users, not only with a few family-related efforts (Kinect Sports, Dance Central) but also a decent amount of games dedicated to the "hardcore" crowd (Child of Eden, Rise of Nightmares).  But there's not too much of a market for downloadable Kinect games as of yet, though Fruit Ninja Kinect is doing fairly well.  Maybe that'll change once people see how good the haunted house adventure game Haunt is.  Maybe.

Kim Dotcom, the founder and mastermind of the beleaguered file-sharing site Megaupload that was recently shut down by authorities, doesn't just face prison time and substantial fines for his alleged crimes, he has also lost his status as the world’s highest ranked player in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. With millions in the bank and a huge mansion from his illegal file sharing empire, Dotcom apparently had a lot of time on his hands and was playing a lot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 under the gamertag MEGARACER. Dotcom had earned the top spot in the first-person shooter video game late last year, according to MSNBC. With around 15 million players worldwide and over $1 billion in sales, Modern Warfare 3 is one of the best selling video games of all time.
