This week on the Faith & Family Live Cast (click here to listen or click on the player above), Danielle, Elizabeth and I talk about the joys and challenges of parenting from afar, when teens and young adult children leave the nest for education or other adventures. We talk about our personal experiences as moms and invite you to share your thoughts on this topic in the comments below: How does mothering... READ MORE
Facing Last Judgment

In my confirmation class, I like to tell the kids stories to help them remember the truths they are learning.
When we learn about the Eucharist I tell them the story of St. Tarcisius and ask why would this young man die for Jesus if he was just carrying a piece of bread?
When we talk about God the Father, I do a dramatic telling of the prodigal son to portray how much God loves each of us.

When Parenting Isn't Fun
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Family on Tuesday, November 08, 2011
I’ll admit, the sight of Arwen’s adorable little chicken and egg this morning led me to a near occasion with the sin of envy. Those two precious little babies, those smiles, all of that promise for so many wonderful years filled with fun…
Of course, what didn’t flash into my mind when I saw the photo was twice the dirty diapers, twice the sleepless nights, and twice the stress of keeping little ones... READ MORE
Will You GPS Track Your Teens
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Family on Monday, October 17, 2011
As the mom of a teen driver, this news story about AAA’s new teen safety device caught my attention. Our Adam has been driving for over six months now and is a very responsible driver, but I’ll admit that my curiosity was piqued by a device that will track his routes and speed, that will send me a text alert when he violates traffic laws, and that’s free to Automobile Association members.
But once... READ MORE

Here’s a teen taking to heart the pope’s challenge to use social media to make Christ’s presence felt.
In the course of her regular perusal of her teen’s facebook page, a friend of mine came across her child’s new “friend.”
“Poolesville Compliments” is an anonymous member of the student body at the local public high school.
He or she posts daily to Facebook with something highlighting the successes... READ MORE

With three homes full of a variety of ages and stages, we share a few of our joys, concerns, and what helps us get through the trying times with our teens. What are some of your biggest challenges in parenting... READ MORE
Delicate Dating Dilemma

I received an email last week from an individual that really tugged at my heartstrings. In the note, the writer described in very loving terms a large family, sharing pride and admiration for the older, independent children of the brood. The writer went on to share with me his/her own upbringing in a home that could unfortunately be described as “racist”. As a result of having grown up in an atmosphere... READ MORE
Praying with and for our Teens

This week, we’re preparing to take one son back to college and the second son is busily adjusting to his Junior year in high school. It’s funny, when my sons were toddlers, I truly thought nothing could be more difficult or more stressful than a terrible two year old. The more we parent teens, the more I realize that every phase of parenting is filled with blessings and challenges. Point in case:... READ MORE
