New Evangelizers

Know Your faith. Live Your Faith. Share Your Faith.

One of the happiest circumstances of my life was the day I decided to take a road trip to Southern California to attend the “Podcast Expo”. I made the decision on a whim after hearing two of my favorite podcast hosts, Greg and Jennifer Willits (then of The Rosary Army, now of The Catholics Next Door), speaking about the event on their podcast. I swallowed the fear I felt inside and took the road trip... READ MORE

When Grandma Doesn't Get It

Dealing with disparities of faith...

I recently received a very nice, thoughtful email from a Catholic dad who’s dealing with a stressful situation with his family. His wife, a convert to Catholicism from what might be considered by some an extremist Christian denomination, is receiving quite a lot of pushback from her mother (his mother in law). Grandma insists that her children being raised as faithful Catholics is a repudiation of... READ MORE

Filling Our Empty Churches

The headline reads, “Archdiocese Turns to Evangelizing,” and reports a new plan for getting Catholics in Boston—only about 16% of whom attend Sunday Mass regularly—back to Church.

I blush to read it.

On the one hand, of course I’m delighted whenever anyone takes up “the new evangelization” in earnest.

What’s “new” about the new evangelization is that its focus is not mission territory in the classic... READ MORE

Catholicism: Are You Watching?

Back in May Danielle alerted us to Fr. Robert Barron’s Catholicism Project. It’s here!

I haven’t been home to see the first installments on public television, but some friends were telling me last night that it’s blockbuster: stunningly gorgeous, and not didactic or preachy.

If you haven’t caught the buzz, here are a few links which describe what people are excited about, and how parishes and prayer... READ MORE

True Faith

What is Catholicism all about?

Our parish got a new priest last weekend, a priest reassigned to our parish to replace the outgoing priest.

This will be our third priest in five years (our tenth priest in thirty years) and it’s hard not to wonder what in the world in wrong with us. How do we keep scaring off these men so quickly?

The truth is there is a whole host of issues at our parish, none of which I’ll go into here. But that’s... READ MORE

Don’t Let Others Tell Our Story

an exciting new project of evangelization

Do you know the work of Fr. Robert Barron? I love his YouTube channel, where he talks about Christianity and the arts, with reviews of contemporary movies and music.

Now he’s been hired by the Archdiocese of Chicago to head up its work of evangelization. He’s going to do a 10-part series on Catholicism, which I’m longing to see based on this introduction.
