About Lynn Wehner

Lynn Wehner As a wife and mother, writer and speaker, Lynn Wehner challenges others to see the blessings that flow when we struggle to say "Yes" to God’s call. Control freak extraordinaire, she is adept at informing God of her brilliant plans and then wondering why the heck they never turn out that way. After 13 years in high-tech media relations, she left the corporate world, and God wrapped her heart around the non-profit ministry Movin' With The Spirit (MWTS.org) and Faith & Family magazine, where she is Associate Editor. She can't find her way across town without a GPS, but makes a mean homemade brownie. Get a glimpse of her world at Room to Bloom

My "Valiant Defender"

Late-Lent reminder: Jesus has my back

In the heat of the Lenten battle this week, do any of you need to hear these powerful words from Thomas a Kempis? I certainly did …

“Depart from me, you father of lies. You shall have no hold upon me; for Jesus Christ, my Savior, is with me as my valiant defender, and you shall be put to flight in utter confusion” (Imitation of Christ – chapter 6).

Towards the end of a long Lent, sometimes I just need a reminder that Jesus is right here by my side. Sure, I’m tired — but my Savior is not. He gives me the strength to say: “Hit the road, evil one. My ‘valiant defender’ has me covered.”

As we move through these final days of Lent 2011, may we hear and respond to the Lord’s voice alone and not give Satan the time of day.

Repeat after me: “Go away, prince of lies. You have no hold on me. Move along. Nothing to see here. Jesus has my back.”

Top 10 Things I Learned at the Mom's Day Away

I won’t hit it all. I won’t even try. There was too much goodness and beauty to capture in a blog post.

Women’s wisdom surrounded us at our Mom’s Day Away — and the Holy Spirit sank a few things deep in our hearts. Here, in no particular order, is my own personal “highlights reel” of things I learned for the journey …

1. You can leave All. Your. Clothes. at home — half a country away — and still... READ MORE

A "Risk-Free Place to Fight Abortion"?

No such thing, says Fr. Frank Pavone

Fr. Frank Pavone has a powerful post at LifeSite News this week. And, not surprisingly, he offers us a challenge. Hey, a challenge. Just in time for Lent.

The hard truth is that children in the womb are at risk of losing their lives. Every. Day. Why do we think we shouldn’t have to risk something to save them? Are we too cautious in this battle — or are we truly “willing to suffer the consequences... READ MORE

Archbishop Dolan on Lent and confession

This surely won’t be the last post you’ll see this Lenten season about going to confession. Heck, it’s probably not even the first.

And I’m not going to discuss it this time around. I’ll let New York’s Archbishop Timothy Dolan do that through his own simple post on “renewal of heart” and “the power of the Truth.” In it, he shares a reflection on his personal need for confession and his practice of... READ MORE

Lent 2011: Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

Where is God in the process?

It’s Ash Wednesday. So of course I’ve decided what to “do” and “not do” for Lent 2011. Or so I thought.

All set. Got it covered. It’s gonna be great. Er, or not.

Every time I’ve turned around during the last 2 days, I’ve see another great post or I’m privy to another lively conversation in which people are saying, “Here are some ideas for enriching your Lenten journey.” It’s a tremendous blessing... READ MORE

Can I Give Up Numbers for Lent?

I am not a numbers person.

That said, it should then come as no surprise that I am teetering on the brink of insanity after just completing a financial paperwork trifecta: tax returns, financial aid application, and house refinancing. My Lent came early this year.

Actually, it would be great to just give up numbers for Lent. But, alas, for me that would be a treat rather than a sacrifice. Maybe... READ MORE

When the Word Is Clear

Does God hit you in the head until you get it?

So, sometimes it takes me a while. Yesterday, I was drawn to this Bible passage (which begins with Jesus cursing the fig tree) ...

“Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe... READ MORE

Of Parties and Pancakes ... It's Next Tuesday!

An idea or two for the eve of Lent

Next week, we shall witness the arrival of Ash Wednesday. How it got here, I honestly don’t know. We’ve had all the planning time in the world, but then, seemingly ... Boom! Sneak attack!

So I’m scurrying a bit with my last-minute ideas for “giving up” and “adding in.” And I’m realizing that a plan now needs to be finalized in our home for saying good-bye to this season and ushering in the Lenten... READ MORE

Time Is on Our Side

Taking advantage of a "late Lent"?

Are you preparing for Lent yet? I ask because, well, doesn’t it seem like we have an eternity to do so this year, with Easter falling so late in the Church calendar?

It has created an interesting dynamic in my circles. So many people I know are saying things like, “Man, I never say this, but I’m so ready for Lent,” “I feel like we should be in Lent already,” and “When does Lent begin again? It seems... READ MORE

For the Youth of the World

Madrid is calling ... any takers?

Am I the only one, or does this little montage have your heart bursting with joy for our Church?

Grassroots Films has really captured the essence of World Youth Day. Young people, given the chance, will be on fire for our beautiful faith. The “future of our Church” … begins in the present of our Church.

Anyone heading to Spain with a group this summer?  I know it’s an exhausting pilgrimage, but after watching this short film, I think it might be wise to hide my credit cards and checkbook … or by day’s end I may find myself the proud owner of plane tickets to Madrid!
