Rumour: F-Zero Z Coming At E3?

The blisteringly fast racer is rumoured to be receiving a new Wii installment.

F-Zero has thus far remained without a successor on the DS or Wii since the GBA and GameCube days, not including retro additions of the series to the Virtual Console. However, German website Planet-Nintendo have just confidently reported that a new installment, entitled F-Zero Z, will be burning its way onto the Wii very soon.

The website states that the alleged new racer is the official successor to F-Zero GX on the GameCube, and will feature a new weapons system and an online mode. It will supposedly appear at E3 2008.

Treat this as a rumour for now, unless Nintendo decide to come forward to debunk it. Fake or not though, it's definitely exciting stuff.

Update:
Planet-Nintendo have confirmed that this is nothing more than a resurfaced April Fools joke.

F-Zero doesn't need weapons... it never did; this type of game is all about the racing and I highly doubt they (whoever is developing it) can successfully implement a weapons system without cheapening / compromising the franchise.

That said, if it's made by AV then they are the only ones who could pull off such a prevously unspeakable addition to the series.

That said, this is still rumour...

Though if true, if made by AV, if online, if as challenging as F-Zero GX and if the weapons system works then this could be the best F-Zero game eva!!11 !1!!

But seriously for gods sake change the name, Z just isn't as awesome sounding as X... >>

All we need now is a story mode cut-scene where Captain Falcon gets angry with another racer outside of a race he starts to do a Falcon Punch but another persons holds him back... lol.. "FAL-COOOOON... P-ugh"

as far as i know this was a april fools joke. Nintendo would never ad weapons in F-Zero.

Agree with Maiky-nisute - Nintendo know that people do not want weapons in F-Zero, and it doesn't even fit in with making the game more accessible.

It'd pretty much be the end of F-Zero if the put in weapons. That'd be terrible.

I love F-Zero GX, it's easily one of the GCs top 3 games. Hopefully they get around to doing a sequel within a few years.
