Fire Emblem Gaiden

Also known as: Fire Emblem 2

Second installment in Nintendo's Fire Emblem strategy roleplaying game series, titled Fire Emblem Gaiden (=side story). While the title offers up much of the same turn-based strategizing and character-on-character auto-battles, it also introduced a number of upgrades. For starters, the game was split into two different stories, one starring a hero named Alm, and the other following the exploits of the female warlord Celica on the continent of Valencia. For the first time, players could go back to maps they had previously visited, some character classes could be promoted multiple times, and the game placed more emphasis on offense via limit-free weapon use and a magic casting system that utilized character health instead of magic points. The game features five chapters.
