Know what we don't see too much of anymore?  2-D platformers.  Granted, we did just get Rayman Origins last year, which is absolutely fantastic (and $20 at Toys R' Us if you somehow missed out), but we mean like the classic platformer, the kind where you could go about your journey, collecting stuff and beating enemies with combos.  Well, Square Enix and TikGames have brought that feeling back with ScaryGirl, and while it's got its problems, it's still a haunting good time.

It's great to see that a lot of our classic favorites from yesteryear are finding a new life on the digital front, through App Store downloads for the iPad and iPhone.  We've already experienced such games as the Dragon's Lair series, Atari's Greatest Hits, and others, and Taito has been contributing with its own fair share of classics.  Their latest brings back the old Sega Saturn shooter Galactic Attack, also known overseas and in the App Store as Rayforce.  It brings back a much-needed dose of old school to the market...though it does so at a tremendous price.

You don’t mess with Agent 47.  You may not even know he’s there, but if you’re in his sights, you might as well draw up your will and say goodbye to everything, because chances are you won’t survive.  The master CIA assassin has been doing his damage for the past few years, and this fall, he continues on his suave yet destructive journey of perfect kills with Hitman: Absolution.  Square Enix recently invited us down to its suite during the Consumer Electronics Show to get a better look at the game.

When Dead Island came out a couple of months ago, it introduced gamers to an entertaining new splatterfest from a first-person perspective, and proved that all the hype the awesome trailer provided had a solid game behind it.  But it doesn't look like the development team at Techland is done yet.  Reports have indicated that a new trademark has been filed for an upcoming project called Dead World.  Sequel?

Square Enix will publish Airtight Games Quantum Conundrum, a first-person platform puzzle game that’s sure to be one of the big downloadable games of 2012. The game comes from the mind of Kim Swift, the co-creator of Valve’s Portal. Gamers will be able to download this title via Steam (PC), PlayStation Network (PS3) and Xbox LIVE Arcade (Xbox 360). One can safely argue that NieR has one of the best soundtracks of the current console generation. Beautiful, imaginative vocals in non-existent languages accompany a dramatic musical score that can carry a heavy sadness or a sense of danger. The soundtrack was so loved, it's seen a remix album and, more recently, a tribute album. Fans of the music of NieR now have something else on the way in the form of an upcoming concert near the end of October.

Hot on the heels of Tokyo Game Show 2011 are two new trailers for Final Fantasy XIII-2, one for each version of the game. Not only are there two new trailers, but several new details about the game were revealed not only at Tokyo Game Show, but in the build-up to that conference. To watch the new trailers read on.

So you think zombie games have run their course, eh?  Between all the Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead games, it would be easy for someone to think that the undead have run their course in video games.  But Deep Silver and Square Enix's surprise hit Dead Island has proved otherwise, as the companies have reported big sales numbers for the trouble-in-paradise action game.

The Tokyo Game Show is in full swing, and a number of announcements have already been making the rounds.  Among them is one from Square Enix, as the company is bringing back one of its most popular role-playing games for both the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, in high definition format.  That game of choice is Final Fantasy X, and while it's nice to see it make a come back, we have this sinking feeling that Square could've gone with a better, more popular choice.  And you can probably guess what it is.
