PlayStation 2: 150 Million Served

System crosses major shipment figure. Software sales cross 1.5 billion.

 

PlayStation 2 has crossed the 150 million mark in worldwide shipments, Sony announced today. The landmark was crossed on January 31, around 10 years and 11 months after the system was first released to Japan in March 2000.

Sales of PlayStation 2 software as of December 2010 stood at 1,527,000,000 units. This is spread across 10,828 releases.

Sony said that it expects continue demand for the system in such regions as East Europe, South East Asia the Middle East, and South America.
