Boston University downs Merrimack

Connolly scores twice to lead Terriers past No. 4 Warriors

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Thanks to two goals from senior Chris Connolly and a pair of 4-on-4 tallies in the second period, No. 3 Boston University defeated No. 4 Merrimack 4-1 on Friday. Senior Kieran Millan made 28 saves to help the Terriers improve to 16-8-1 overall and 13-6-1 in Hockey East play.

Connolly added an assist for a three-point night and sophomore Matt Nieto tied a career high with three assists. Junior Alex Chiasson registered a goal and an assist and sophomore Sahir Gill potted the eventual game-winning goal.

Connolly opened the scoring just 1:29 into the game with a wrister from the right circle.

The BU penalty kill was a perfect 5-for-5 in the second period and the Terriers got 4-on-4 goals from Gill and Chiasson in the stanza to extend their lead.

The visitors extended their lead to 4-0 in the third period when Connolly scored four seconds into a Terriers power play opportunity.

Merrimack (14-6-5, 10-5-3 Hockey East) spoiled Millan’s shutout bid with 1:42 left in regulation to create the 4-1 final.
