So much for the proposed Mortal Kombat remake that Warner Bros. Pictures had hoped to get off the ground. Still, fans of the bloody battle are in for a treat as Bloody Disgusting learned that director Kevin Tancharoen - who directed the awesome online short - will return behind the camera for a 10-episode web series dedicated to the popular video game. Penned by Tancharoen, Todd Helbing, and Aaron Helbing, star Michael Jai White leads the cast as "Major Jackson 'Jax' Briggs. Shooting will take place in Vancouver this coming February. Contested expected to be cast are: Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Durak, Kabal, Kitana/Mileena and of course Scorpion. No release date is planned, and there's no word on that R-rated remake. The only plot details we could conjure up is that a few Earthlings will fight to save the planet from Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung, two Gods ruling over parallel universes, or something to that effect.
If these webisodes are as good and brutal as that trailer (and a bit longer) i'm all in for this. I've been aching for some R-rated Mortal Kombat! Hated both movies cause of their child friendly approach with the second one being the worst. Why do that when your source material is so insanely gory?
Mortis Dei, while I agree, the first film is still a pretty decent adaptation for what it was. I don't think it should be considered crap just because it was kid friendly. My concern as a die hard fan is having a GOOD movie, I could care less about gore ect.
Doesn't mean that there can't be a film out of it. If the webisodes are huge hit then I'd imagine they would want to see the $$$ out of the deal. Very interested to see how this works out.
How about actually listening to the SModcast in which this was announced? Michael Jai White said that yes, they're doing a web series, but then that will lead into a feature film.
I've just about had it with the retarded amount of invasive pop up adds on this site. I know you have to sell something to keep this thing running, but why do you have to completely sell out every inch of your site?
Wonder if the guy that originally created this face will FINALLY get credit now since it was used without his permisssion

This news was actually announced on episode 74 of My Take Radio in an interview with Michael Jai White. You can listen to it by going to http://mytakeradio.com/listen-to-my-take-radio/ You can also hear about the future of the franchise.
Let's give credit where credit is due.
I'm glad they won't be making this trailer into a movie, it looks like crap! I don't like the fact that they tried to make the characters "realistic". Reptile has skin disease? WTF! Baraka looks aweful too! Anyways, I know I won't be watching those pointless episodes..
Interesting of the use of RE:Extinction music in the back... Even though this looked really good I'm still a fan of the original Film. I wasn't to fond of the sequel so having a reboot might not be so bad.
Hrmmm, when is the second part going to be posted and where?
