Social games offset Capcom decline

Capcom's profits fell by more than half in the nine months ending December 31, with declines in its console business offset by its social gaming division almost tripling its profits.

Net sales revenue came to  ¥50.3 billion (£416.6 million), down 29 per cent year on year. Net income, or profit, fell 52.6 per cent to ¥3.2 billion (£26.9 million).

The publisher's consumer online game division saw sales fall 41.3 per cent, to ¥31.7 billion (£262.9 million), with profit falling 54.1 per cent to ¥5.9 billion (£49.3 million).

Capcom's mobile business, however, is doing much better. Sales revenue climbed 68.2 per cent to ¥4 billion (£33.2 million); operating income rose 189.1 per cent, to ¥1.36 billion (£11.3 million). Last April, Capcom formed a dedicated social division, Beeline Interactive, and its games have now been downloaded more than 46 million times.
