XCOM: Enemy Unknown

I think we have a thread for the XCOM fps but I'll be buggered if I can find one for this, a proper turn-based title by Firaxis (those who do Civ). Never played the original, which I understand is revered by some as the best strategy game of all time, but this seems a re-working of XCOM with some intriguing elements:

A global view played in real time where you scour the earth for UFO landings whilst building up yer base (unsure how this is going to work)

Multi-tiered destructible levels and the ability to zoom out for a full tactical view of your squad as you attempt to stave off alien invasion.

One of the best things about the original I hear was that squad members got better using gear (like sniper rifles) the more they used it. As opposed to just leveling up skills after missions by spending XP points. And if they died in the battlefield, they died permanently. Which led to a sort of strong emotional attachment to little isometric space marines. Which I'm all for.

I'm also liking the Mekon-style foes and these rather fab G-Men units:

Saw some footage of old Xcom on youtube recently and got very close to picking them up again on Steam.

Even if they just slapped a HD remake out I'd be very happy. It was a great series of games in it's day; I hope they don't destroy the rose tinters.

Edit: Firaxis seem to want to put it on shelves in "fall 2012" for consoles (eh? Worrying begins…) and WInPC.
