In just one week at retail, Star Wars became the bestselling catalog Blu-ray Disc of all time with worldwide sales totaling one million units, including 515,000 units sold in North America.  This represents $84 million in worldwide consumer spend including $38 million in North America - unprecedented for a nine-disc Blu-ray collection at a premium price.

Johnny Depp will be popping out of your screen in 3D in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Fans have a lot of green this weekend. Green Lantern is on the big screen, on home video, and on video game consoles. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment have released Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters.  The action-adventure videogame, inspired by the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures’ superhero feature film Green Lantern, based on the DC Comics’ character of the same name. The developer talks about the new game in this exclusive video interview below.

Disney easily had the most beautiful and unique booth design at the show hands down.  It was constructed to appear as a public park, a coffee shop, and a modern home that was about the size of my apartment (the kitchen was bigger for sure!).

Sony is showing signs of synergy again across its Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment divisions. The June 14th Blu-ray Disc release of Battle: Los Angeles will include a 30-minute playable single-player demo of the September 6th PlayStation 3 sci-fi shooter, Resistance 3. This marks the first time the companies have worked together to deliver a gameplay experience on a movie release to a global audience. Sony first tried blending a popular movie’s home entertainment release with a video game demo back in 2009, when God of War 3 was included on the North American District 9 Blu-ray Disc.

It’s been a grueling few weeks for PlayStation 3 gamers. Since April 20, Sony has shut down its PlayStation Network after a cyber attack compromised user data. With PlayStation Network phasing back into action this week, Sony is trying to make amends with these gamers – many of whom have been very vocal about their dissatisfaction with the loss of personal information and the lockout of all online services. Gamers who have been locked out of games like DC Universe Online can jump into the game this week.

With BioWare developing one of the big games of 2011, Mass Effect 3, Electronic Arts has cut a deal with FUNimation Entertainment to create an anime feature film based on the bestselling franchise. Tokyo-based anime and international feature film production company T.O Entertainment has signed on as a co-producer on the video. Based on the Mass Effect universe, the anime video will tell the tale of an epic science fiction adventure set in a vast universe filled with dangerous alien life and mysterious, uncharted planets. Production of the Mass Effect anime movie has already begun. Digital and home video releases are scheduled for the summer of 2012. Actress Jennifer Hale, the voice of Commander Shepard in the game series, talks about her role in this exclusive video interview.

Actor Freddie Highmore has starred in some Hollywood blockbusters over the years, taking on the role of Charlie in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (and its video game), and starring in The Spiderwick Chronicles (and its video game), and Astro Boy (and its video game).
