Information

Double Dash!! introduces some changes to the Mario Kart formula. The steel-frame karts have been replaced with karts modelled after the racers. Now you also choose two characters - one to drive and one to use items. Characters may also pick up a character-specific special attack that will help you in your race.

As before you must race three or five laps around a series of circuits, aiming to get the most points in a cup in order to win the gold trophy. Along the way you can collect items that help you to attack or speed past your opponents. Each car has a different rating in terms of top speed, strength and acceleration, and only characters of certain weight classes can ride in certain cars.

Grand Prix is the main mode, but there are also Time Trials, and of course VS. Mode. In VS. Mode you can play multiplayer races, or take part in item battles. Multiplayer races can now be played with two players to each kart, allowing players to cooperate. The classic Balloon Battle returns, and is joined by two new battle modes: Shine Thief is a "capture the flag" game, where the player who is holding the Shine when time runs out is declared winner; and Bob-Omb Blast gives you colour-coded explosives to do away with your opponents.
