Business Committee for the Arts Honors Brown-Forman Corporation
Brown-Forman Corp. of Louisville was named one of the 10 best companies supporting the arts in America by the Business Committee for the Arts. The BCA 10 is a national list created to recognize businesses of all sizes for their exceptional involvement with the arts that enrich the workplace, education and the community. These companies set the standard of excellence and serve as role models for others to follow. 

Recognized at a gala dinner Oct. 30 at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, other honorees included:  Anadarko Petroleum Corp., Houston; Emprise Bank, Wichita, Kan.; First Tennessee, Memphis, Tenn.; H&R Block Inc., Kansas City, Mo.; Limited Brands Inc., Columbus, Ohio; Northwestern Mutual, Milwaukee; Sweetwater Sound Inc., Fort Wayne, Ind.; Wachovia, Charlotte, N.C.; and Zions First National Bank, Salt Lake City.



Kentucky Poets Featured at the Library of Congress
The November 2008 Poetry at Noon reading at the Library of Congress will spotlight Kentucky Poet Laureate Jane Gentry Vance. Other poets to be featured at the event are Kentucky natives Tony Crunk, Maurice Manning and Davis McCombs. All three have won the Yale Younger Poets Award.

The Kentucky poets will read at noon Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the Whittall Pavilion on the ground level of the Thomas Jefferson Building in Washington, D.C. A reception will follow the readings.

The reading by the Kentucky poets is sponsored by the Library of Congress’ Poetry and Literature Center and the Library’s Center for the Book and supported by a partnership grant from the Kentucky Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.



KFW Director Named to Boardof Grantmakers in the Arts
Judi Jennings, executive director of The Kentucky Foundation for Women (KFW), has been elected to the Board of Grantmakers in the Arts (GIA). GIA is a membership organization representing over 300 organizations including private, community, corporate and family foundations, as well as public sector grantmakers, regranting organizations and individual donors.



Nominations Sought for Annual Kentucky Women Remembered
The Kentucky Commission on Women is seeking nominations of outstanding women in Kentucky’s history to be honored in the Kentucky Women Remembered exhibit in the Capitol. Nominations must be submitted by Dec. 1.
Kentucky Women Remembered began in 1978 and consists of portraits depicting exceptional women in Kentucky’s history.

Nominees must have been born in, or spent a significant part of their lives in Kentucky and may be living or deceased. Nominees’ actions or achievements should have influence outside their communities or should have increased the status of women in some significant manner.
