Game List & DSiWare Updates

03 January 2012

Happy New Year everybody! I am starting off this year with the first of several huge updates that are long overdue. Over the past few days I have been making changes to the system and game lists in the Hardware section. All of the main home and portable systems have been updated to the format being used on the 3DS page, with sortable release tables with thumbnails and a few fixes made here and there.

The reason I've been dragging my feet is thanks to DSiWare. Not only has the section been updated, but I have uploaded game pages for every Nintendo game on the download service. Next step, I have to add cameos to these pages...

The Legend of Zelda

NES Page Updates

4th September 2011

To celebrate the release of 10 NES games for the 3DS Ambassador Programme, I have updated the game pages for The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and Metroid. Each now includes information on characters, enemies, bosses and items. I will hopefully be adding and updating more games to this list shortly.

Update 2: Sure enough, I have also updated the gamepages for the remaining 5 action games released through the Ambassador Programme: Super Mario Bros., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, Donkey Kong Jr. and Wrecking Crew.

Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo 3DS Section Update

17th July 2011

A big update to the Nintendo 3DS games today. I have added pages for new and upcoming packaged titles, all download games, plus the built-in software that comes with the system. You may notice these game pages look a little different, and this is part of a larger project that will be rolling out across the site.

I have also gone through and added cameos to the relevant pages: Nintendo 3DS Sound, StreetPass: Mii Plaza, AR Games, Nintendogs + Cats, Pilotwings Resort and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.

Birthday

Happy NinDB 10th!

28th June 2011

Today is the site's 10th birthday! I have posted a birthday message on the forums, alongside the video that started it all. Check it out!

It's been a long haul and a lot of hard work, but 10 years is a damn fine achievement. Thanks to all of the readers, and special thanks to all the contributors who have helped to make the site worth reading in the first place.

In the words of Zelda 2: Thanks a Million!

Cameos

New Cameos

16th June 2011

Sure enough, since the big cameo update before E3 I have received a number of newly discovered cameo submissions. I will be adding them gradually to the site over the next few days while simultaneously ploughing through the monstrous Smash Bros. games.

Two games have new cameos and new screenshots: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and Metroid Fusion, with more on the way.

A load of games have also had screenshots submitted, including Donkey Kong Country (GBA), Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, Kirby Super Star, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Metroid Zero Mission. A huge thanks to forum-goer TV Eye for a lot of them.

You may also notice that the site menu now includes a link to the Cameos list, where you can check out all games with cameos in them without having to trawl through the site.

Wii U

E3 2011: Wii U Demos

7th June 2011

A final update for you today. I have added a section on the Wii U Demos shown at E3. This is something I'd eventually like to cover for older systems as well.

And with the bulk of E3 coverage now online, I had better finish those Smash Bros. cameos before the next one comes out!

Wii

E3 2011: Wii & Nintendo DS Games

7th June 2011

Finally, I have updated the Wii Announced Games and Nintendo DS Announced Games pages with the titles Nintendo has on display at E3 this year.

I hope everyone is enjoying all the news from the show!

Nintendo 3DS

E3 2011: Nintendo 3DS Games

7th June 2011

I have updated the Nintendo 3DS Announced Games page with new screenshots and information on the titles Nintendo has on display at E3 this year, including Super Mario and Luigi's Mansion 2. Check it out!

Wii U

E3 2011: Wii U

7th June 2011

Today, at their E3 2011 press conference, Nintendo revealed the Wii U. Check out the new Wii U section for images and more information.

While very few first-party games have been shown, Nintendo revealed New Super Mario Bros. Mii for the Wii U, Luigi's Mansion 2 for the 3DS and announced that a new Super Smash Bros. title will be coming to both the Wii U and 3DS.

NinDB will be updating today and tomorrow with all of the announcements from the show.

Sleeping Link

Cameos

4th June 2011

This is probably the biggest update NinDB has ever had. You may remember that NinDB used to record the hundreds of cameos in Nintendo games. With the launch of the DS, I never really kept on top of it, and when the site moved in 2009 they were gone completely.

Well, they're back.

Not only are they back, but I have trawled my archives back to 2004 for every submission and added in every missing cameo that has never been on NinDB.

Of course, you probably don't want to blindly trawl through every game page looking for the cameos, so I've put together this handy list of games with cameos so you can browse to your heart's content. The list may one day become its own section.

There is a caveat to all this lovely news – there's still no Smash Bros. cameos. That is a massive project in and of itself, and one I've taken a few stabs at completing in the past. However, I wanted to get this all done in time for E3, so I had to make a concession there. One day, hopefully not too far into the future, NinDB will have all the Smash Bros. cameos online once again.

Wii

Hardware Updates

4th June 2011

A two-part update for you today as I scramble to get everything ready for all the new E3 announcements. The first update is to announce that the GameCube, Nintendo DS, Wii and Nintendo 3DS sections have all been updated with game lists and hardware lists. I have not finished writing up the cancelled GameCube games feature, but this will be coming soon.

Game Boy Advance

Game Boy Advance Updates

8th May 2011

Another system update has arrived! This time, the Game Boy Advance has been overhauled, and includes features on Game Boy Advance Hardware and Cancelled Game Boy Advance Games. Can you believe it came out 10 years ago?

Nintendo 64

Nintendo 64 Updates

2nd May 2011

The hardware updates continue with a complete overhaul of the Nintendo 64 section.

As with the other system updates, this update includes new articles on Cancelled Nintendo 64 Games – all 14 of them! – and Nintendo 64 Hardware.

Virtual Boy

Virtual Boy Updates

1st May 2011

Another update for you. The Virtual Boy section has been updated.

While it would be churlish to call the Virtual Boy Hardware page an article, due to its small size, the Cancelled Virtual Boy Games page is most certainly worthy of the title.

SNES

Super Famicom & SNES Updates

1st May 2011

The hardware page updates continue with the Super Famicom & SNES section.

The update includes the new gamelist formats, plus new articles on Cancelled Super Famicom & SNES Games and Super Famicom & SNES Hardware.

Dokidoki Panic

Dokidoki Panic & All Night Nippon SMB

28th April 2011

There's no letup as I bring you two more in-depth game articles. This time it's the turn of the bizarre Dream Factory: Dokidoki Panic and limited edition release All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros.

Both gamepages have been significantly rewritten with new information, story and character details you probably haven't seen anywhere else.

Miho Nakayama's Tokimeki Highschool

Miho Nakayama's Tokimeki Highschool

28th April 2011

Here's an update I had originally intended to add to the site on Valentine's Day: An in-depth look at Nintendo's first (and only) dating sim, Miho Nakayama's Tokimeki Highschool.

As well as loads of new information on the game, I have also written up a complete Tokimeki Highschool Walkthrough, which includes how to get all the different endings.

Game Boy

Game Boy Updates

28th April 2011

Hot on the heels of yesterday's update comes a big update to the Game Boy section. And again, there are newly written features on Cancelled Game Boy Games and Game Boy Hardware, plus changes to the various game lists.

Please let me know what you think of the updates. You can follow me on Twitter or drop by the NinDB Forums. All feedback is welcome.

NES

Famicom & NES Updates

27th April 2011

I did warn you there were more updates! As well as sprucing up the site a bit (as always, refresh your browser if it looks weird), I have also been working away on restoring and rewriting some long-missing content.

So head on over to the Famicom & NES page, which has been beefed up with a new gamelist (or the old release date table if you prefer), a feature on Cancelled Famicom & NES Games and one on Famicom & NES Hardware.

Hopefully you'll find something of interest in there. And yes… even more updates still to come!

Edit 1: Quick update. The Project Café page is now online. Not a lot there aside from rumoured features at present. That should all change at its unveiling at Nintendo's press conference at E3 in June.

Edit 2: A little addition I've been meaning to add to the site. Right of the site navigation is a little button to check out my Twitter account. I update it frequently with updates to NinDB as well as my other online activities, plus day-to-day thoughts, comments and jokes on gaming and life in general. Seeya there!

Color TV Game

Color TV Game to Project Café

25th April 2011

So yes, the 3DS was released to relatively little fanfare (and even less software), and to alleviate that, Nintendo has announced that their next-gen home console will be shown at E3 this coming June. Nicknamed Project Cafe, there are more rumours than hard facts so far. It's reputed to have a controller with a screen in it, and also sport truly next-gen graphical capabilities and Wii (but not GameCube) backwards compatibility.

So far, I haven't heard any rumours that the new system will be in any way a 2-player, bright orange Pong clone, like the first ever Nintendo home videogame system, the Color TV Game 6. Nevertheless, I have written a huge update for the Color TV Game system page with all-new content.

I have a stack of finished articles, gamepages and updates waiting to go online, so expect a few more over the coming days.

Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo World 2011

8th January 2011

Promotion of the Nintendo 3DS is picking up. In Japan, the first public demo of the 3DS is currently taking place at the Nintendo World conference. A few new details have been released, such as the launch library (Nintendo is only launching Nintendogs+Cats alongside the system in Japan, although there is strong third party support) and the first demonstration of built-in software, such as Mii Studio and AR Games.

The Mii Studio allows you to take a photo of yourself and have the 3DS create a Mii face for you, which you can then tweak to your liking. AR Games (augmented reality games) use a similar idea to the Sony Eyetoy, where you place cards on flat surfaces and point the 3DS cameras at them to make objects and creatures appear on the 3DS screen, such as Miis and dragons. The technology looks good, but it isn't clear if it will be compatible with any commercially released games.

Two system colours are announced for Japan: Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black. The Japanese launch is on the 26th February 2011, with an announcement expected for the US and Europe in the next couple of weeks.
