Red Dead Redemption was the most-honoured game at last night’s Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) Interactive Achievement Awards.

Rockstar’s western epic sauntered off into the sunset with five gongs, winning Best Action Game and awards for art direction, gameplay engineering, character performance and game direction.

BioWare’s sprawling sci-fi RPG Mass Effect 2 was named Game Of The Year at the expense of fellow nominees Angry Birds, Call Of Duty: Black Ops, God Of War III and Red Dead Redemption. It also won the award for best story and was named RPG of the year.

Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain also picked up three awards, taking the honours for visual engineering, innovation in gaming and original music. Blizzard’s Starcraft II took two awards, as did XBLA hit Limbo.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to erstwhile EA chief creative officer Bing Gordon, and the Pioneer Award was given to industry veteran Bill Budge.

The ceremony was held last night at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas, hosted by actor Jay Mohr.
