3DS Continues Reign in New Year

The 3DS gets its latest million seller early in 2012.

3DS continued to dominate the hardware and software charts as 2012 began, with hardware sales rising in the first full week of the new year. The system also saw its third million seller.

For the week of January 2 through January 8, 3DS sold 240,819 units, a 20% leap from the prior week. All systems saw boosts, particularly the Wii. Vita remained mostly level with the prior week, placing fifth , below all other active platforms.

There were no new releases over the week, so the software chart was similar to the prior week. Monster Hunter 3G crossed the million mark in actual sales, becoming the third 3DS game to do so, and the first third party 3DS game to do so. The top 20 also saw the return of Nintendogs + Cats, likely fueled by the new holiday season sales surge for the 3DS.
