Founded in 1906, the American Association of Museums (AAM) is the largest cultural organization representing the museum industry. We serve over 21,000 members including museum professionals, trustees, independent professionals and the full range of museums--art, history, science, natural history, military, maritime, and children's museums as well as aquariums, zoos, botanical gardens, and historic sites.

Senior Accountant

The American Association of Museums seeks a Senior Accountant with a solid nonprofit accounting background to perform month end close and other accounting operations for this $10 million/year non-profit association.  Working closely with the CFO/COO, Director of Administrative Services, and Accounting Coordinator, the ideal candidate will ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and Federal, state and local laws and advise the staff on best practices regarding the accounting function.

Direct responsibilities include processing and maintaining accurate financial data, preparing/reviewing month end journal entries and reconciliations, and providing financial analysis for both external and internal stakeholders, assisting with budget development and management, preparing audit schedules and materials for the annual financial statement and A-133 audits, ensuring compliance with government grant requirements, and working to improve financial processes and systems – including conversion to the Microsoft Dynamics GP accounting system this year.

The ideal candidate will be able to present financial data and communicate accounting principles to staff members at all levels of the organization and possess a minimum of five years of accounting experience, including responsibility for month-end close procedures, in an association or non-profit.  Other requirements include experience with accounting software and association management software and MS Office, particularly Microsoft GP, Epicor, IMIS, Aptify, FRX and Forecaster.  A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required (CPA preferred) and government grant compliance experience is highly desirable.  Email cover letter, resume, and salary requirements, noting "Sr. Accountant" in the subject line to:  hr@aam-us.org.  EOE
