Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director
Jeffrey L. Best
 

Jeffrey Best joined the Company on 1 May 2011 in the capacity of Chief Operating Officer (COO) and was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Director in September 2011. Mr Best has 15 years experience within the Mining sector having started his career at Phelps Dodge Mining Company in 1996 where he spent 3 years in operations, engineering and management roles and participated in various key strategic projects. Having moved to Accenture in 2001 Mr Best provided integral input as the subject matter expert into business improvement projects and latterly he was employed as Manager, Strategy and Business Architecture up until leaving in 2004. Prior to joining Katanga Mr Best was employed by Freeport McMoran Copper and Gold where he was assigned to the TenkeFungurume Mine operation in the DRC as Director General responsible for all operational activities. Mr Best graduated from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology with a Bachelor of Science, Mineral Engineering in 1996 and then went on to complete a Master of Business Administration at the University of Chicago in 2001. Mr Best had previously served six years in the United States Marine Corps.

Chief Financial Officer
Nico Paraskevas
 

Nico Paraskevas was appointed Chief Financial Officer in April 2011. Mr. Paraskevas joined Katanga in November 2009 as Finance Director and was appointed Commercial Director in May 2010. He has over 10 years of financial, asset management and commercial experience and is a qualified chartered accountant.

Chief Operating Officer
Itamar Machado
 

Itamar Machado began his mining career in Brazil with Anglo Gold in 1994, concentrating on underground mining. From 1999 to 2004, he worked at Yauliyacu and Rosaura Project (Perubar), both operations within the Glencore Group and held positions of increasing levels of responsibility including Operations Manager. Remaining within the Glencore Group, Mr. Machado moved to Zambia in 2004 joining Mopani Copper Mines as Mine Manager. In 2009 he transferred to Katanga Mining to work at the Kamoto Copper Company mine site in Kolwezi, DRC in the capacity of Mine Technical Services Manager. On his promotion into the role of General Manager, Mining, in mid 2009, Mr. Machado became responsible for both the UG and Open Pit activities and for the planning of future operational projects. Mr. Machado holds a Degree in Mining Engineering from School of Mines, Ouro Preto Federal University, MG, Brazil.
