Aerospace CampsDuring the summer, the National Museum of the United States Air Force offers five summer day camps with aerospace themes. Camps are for students who will have finished grades 2-9. Base clearance is not required to participate in the camps.

The 2012 camp schedule is as follows:

Go for Launch!
June 18-22, 2012
9 a.m.-noon

Students who have finished grades 5-6 and who have previously had little or no experience building model rockets, airplanes or plastic kits of any kind, will have the opportunity to learn about the history and science of rocketry, and build and launch several model rockets. Cost is $70 per camper.

Liftoff!
June 25-29, 2012
9 a.m.-2 p.m.

This intermediate level model rocket camp is designed for students who have completed grades 6-8 and who have had some experience building model rockets, airplanes or plastic kits of any kind. The camp will provide them with an opportunity to learn about the history and science of rocketry and will also allow them to build and launch several model rockets. Cost is $80 per camper.

Into the Wild Blue Yonder!
July 9-13, 2012
9 a.m.-noon

This beginning level aerospace camp is designed for students who have finished grades 4-6 and who have little or no background knowledge of the principles of flight. Campers will learn the basics about five different aspects of flight: airplanes, kites, hot air balloons, helicopters and rockets. Cost is $40 per camper. 

Soaring High!
July 23-27, 2012 
9 a.m.- 2 p.m.

Students who have finished grades 6-9 will have the opportunity to experience the exciting world of flight by building and flying a variety of paper and Styrofoam gliders as they progress to a large balsa and hardwood high performance hand-launch glider. Students will also have an opportunity to fly in a Piper PA-28 Warrior aircraft as part of the camp. Campers will learn about the steps involved in becoming a pilot, hear personal stories from a World War II pilot, and take a field trip to the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Aero Club where they will have the opportunity to climb into and learn about the controls of a civilian aircraft. Cost is $70 per camper. 

High Flying Adventure!
July 30-Aug. 3, 2012
9 a.m.- noon

Students who have finished grades 2-3 will have high-flying fun as they examine flight through a series of aviation-oriented books and a variety of hands-on activities. Cost is $35 per camper.
