La Befana brings small gifts to our kids on Epiphany. We read the Tomie de Paola book, Old Befana, and talk about it. The nativity set that we received for our first married Christmas has the figures all glued down, so we can’t make the Magi travel!
Epiphany

Epiphany has always been a big deal in our home.
Growing up, each family member would receive a gift on the Feast of Epiphany to celebrate the gifts the Magi brought baby Jesus. Also on that day, the Three Wise Men from my mom’s Fontanini Nativity would finally arrive at the stable. At the start of Advent, the Magi were set apart and slowly, over the course of the weeks leading up to Epiphany, they would make the journey towards the creche on the other side of the room.
I have mostly continued this tradition with my own family. While I don’t have my Fontanini Wise Men travel, I do try and have a gift for each family member to celebrate this special feast. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons, that didn’t happen this year and I’m sad to report the boys took note of the absence. Maybe I’ll surprise them with a belated celebration—we shall see.
What about you? Do you celebrate this feast with gifts, or in some other special way? I’d love to hear what other families do.

We give the boys their stockings~found on the foot of their beds~on the Epiphany. I also did a blog about certain customs and traditions we do.
Our wise men start traveling on Christmas Day when Jesus is placed in the nativity. I know some people who have Mary and Joseph travel from Advent to Christmas, but I only have the wise men travel during the Christmastide.
This is just a suggestion, but you might want to give the boys their gifts on Sunday~The Baptism of the Lord. One tradition we didn’t do tonight was have mince pie (due to us all being ill with flu) so we will have it then.
One tradition that is irish that I forgot to put on my blog (but will) is that after we bless our home with the blessed chalk, we hang a pic of the first christmas card of the Magi we received above our front door. It will stay there all year until the next Epiphany. Hmmm...I hope I don’t post on this again!
Thanks for that reminder, Joyce. My parents always do the chalk on the door. I’d like to start that here as well.
