Mother's Day and Mom's Night Out
Posted by Lisa Hendey in News on Thursday, May 06, 2010 6:29 PM
This week, Sarah Reinhard joins Arwen and me for a true mom podcast (click here to listen or click on the player above). Reflecting upon Danielle’s recent post, we share a discussion about our Mother’s Day traditions and expectations, including having a lack of traditions. What do you want for Mother’s day? Do you have any Mother’s Day traditions? Does your husband take charge on that day or do you need to give a few hints of what you would like? How do you avoid feeling disappointed or forgotten? What does your parish do to recognize moms?
This week’s Faith & Family Feature Product is Tsp Spices. Tired of dried spices going stale? Try the individual 1 teaspoon packets from Tsp Spices. The pre-measured packets of spice stay fresh until you use them. One tin includes 12 packages. The cans themselves protect the spices from light and air and the boxes help them to stay together in neat sets. Shop collections or individual spices like Game Day Chili and Peace of the Pie. You can also purchase The Spice Kitchen, a cookbook featuring more than 100 recipes that feature spices from Tsp Spices. Check out all the individual spices at tspspices.com.
Arwen recently posted on girls’ night out. Do you have the time to get out for a social event without the kids? Do you have a regular night out? Book club? Shopping? Moms group? Is your husband available or do you have to get a sitter? Does a night out rejuvenate you or do all the details stress you out? What would you recommend to a mom who has moved away and has to make new friends? What is your recommendation to moms with little children? Would you ever go on a weekend trip with your girlfriends and leave the kids with your husband or family?

I wanted to say that I truly enjoy the podcast every week. Wish it could be more often. This week however I was put-off by Sarah’s comment that a Mom’s night is a selfish endeavor. I think that if you have the opportunity and it works with both your husband and kids schedule it is a great thing for Mom’s to get away for a little while. If you abuse this privilege then you start being selfish. I think that all mom’s need a little time away from their family to regroup and recenter. As well as dads!
I really enjoyed this week’s podcast as always, but I am definitely a mom who is better for my evenings out. I actually talked with my husband tonight about whether or not he wishes I didn’t go out at night (I run out to the store or out for coffee a couple nights a week after the kids are in bed) and he says he likes it, he gets to listen the game I guess we’re all just different and need to find what works for us, our husbands and children best.
Have a great Mother’s Day ladies!
