Live Chat During The Gist
Posted by Danielle Bean in News on Friday, December 30, 2011
We are getting pretty excited about the upcoming premiere episode of The Gist on CatholicTV. The first episode will air next week, on Wednesday, January 4 at 10:30 am EST. Even if your cable company doesn’t offer CatholicTV, you can watch the show live online at CatholicTV.com.
Before, after, and during the show, we would love it if you would join the conversation on Twitter, using the hashtag #TheGist.
We are also planning a live chat, right here at Faith & Family Live during the broadcast of the first episode. I will be participating in the chat, along with the other ladies from The Gist—Rachel Balducci, Carolee McGrath, and producer Kate Andrews. We really hope you will want to to be a part of it. Joining the chat is easy. You will need only submit your name (you choose any screen name you like) and submit your comment in the live chat post that will publish at the top of the Faith & Family blog beginning at 10:15 am EST next Wednesday.
If you like, you can add your email address to the form below and Cover It Live will send you an email reminder before the event. Sign up now! Tune in Wednesday! And let’s chat!

If you’re friends on Facebook or Twitter with Rachel or Danielle, you’ve likely been sharing my joy at their updates and tweets from the set of CatholicTV’s brand new television program for women, The Gist. The show, a new kind of Catholic programming for women, stars Rachel Balducci, Danielle Bean and Carolee McGrath. The awesome Facebook page for The Gist has a photo album full of great shots like... I’m excited to announced (drumroll please) a forthcoming book, featuring several of the Faith and Family Live! writers.
The book is compiled and edited by Hallie Lord of Betty Beguiles fame. Here’s what she has to say about its contents:
In Style, Sex, and Substance: 10 Catholic Women Consider the Things that Really Matter, ten of the top Catholic female writers come together to offer tips, encouragement,... READ MORE
Women and Organizations

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of speaking at the annual convention for the Winona Diocesan Council of Catholic Women in Worthington, Minnesota. I was with them Friday night when their Executive Board met to go over plans for the upcoming year, and Saturday when their local Bishop installed the new officers. I witnessed scores of women coming together from as far away as six hours, to pray,... READ MORE
A Woman's Place

The very first Eucharistic congress was held in 1881 in Lille, France. The very first organizer, according to Vatican Information Services, was a woman.
It is not widely known that the idea to hold these congresses came from a woman, a French woman called Emilie-Marie Tamisier, one of the many lay people to dedicate their lives to the defence of the Church at a time in which anti-Catholic polemics... READ MORE
Fearful Choices

At the height of Operation Rescue’s clinic-blocking efforts during the Clinton administration, journalist Cynthia Gorney published a fine pair of articles in City Paper profiling pro-life activists and abortion clinic-workers, respectively.
They were very fair-minded pieces and formed the seed of a book she later wrote on the topic of the abortion wars.
Her piece on the atmosphere inside abortion... READ MORE

Influential Women

About twenty years ago a friend pointed out there were no positive role models for Catholic lay women.
I was certain that wasn’t true, since there were many women teachers, politicians, activists and mothers I admired.
Then I tried to name even one Catholic woman who was both personally admirable and widely enough known that she could be called a role model in the sense my friend meant. There was... READ MORE
Women v. Same-Sex Marriage
Posted by Rebecca Teti in Marriage on Monday, June 20, 2011
Question: isn’t same-sex marriage inherently in conflict with the principle of the equal dignity of women?
I haven’t seen anyone make the argument but it seems obvious to me that for the law to say that same-sex marriage is the moral equivalent of one-man, one-woman marriage is simultaneously to proclaim that the unique gifts of women are officially, by government decree, not in any way important.
By that token, it’s opposed to the dignity of men, too, in that it (ironically!) un-sexes all of us. The challenge to women is direct, however. The womb? Child-rearing? Same-sex marriage proclaims them—and the policies and lifestyle needed to support them—insignificant.
Curious what you make of that argument. Is it persuasive?
Conservatives Can Be Hotties Too?

I am not a prude.
I realize that nothing screams “I am a prude!” more loudly than beginning a blog post with that sentence, but I truly am not the kind of person who usually gets herself twisted in knots over “inappropriate” and “offensive” things she sees online. It’s a big world, I’m a big girl, and I can accept that some people’s standards differ from my own.
So when I happened upon The 20 Hottest Conservative Women in The New Media,... READ MORE
