Answering the "Why" Questions
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Monday, November 07, 2011
This weekend, I received a relatively frantic email from a mom of a very inquisitive four year old. In her note, she asked for input to answer two specific questions her little philosopher has posed to her:
1. Why did God make me?
2. How did God make me?
Somewhere in the depths of my memory, this little boy’s first question “Why did God make me?” elicited a response I’d learned years ago from Lesson 1 of the Baltimore Catechism:... READ MORE

Perhaps it’s because I’ve been so immersed in the lives of the saints due to the launch of my new book, A Book of Saints for Catholic Moms - the virtual “book tour” I’ve been enjoying has me answering the question “Who is your favorite saint?” multiple times per day.
And the truth is, every time I’m asked the question... READ MORE

Last night again at Mass, as I read a very helpful document in our parish bulletin on the upcoming changes in the Mass, I was struck by how very quickly this new translation will be a part of our lives.
For those looking for helpful resources, I would point you to the “Welcoming the Roman Missal Third Edition” section of the USCCB website. It is filled with very helpful resources that you can use... READ MORE
A Good Book

A friend of mine recently recommended a book I just had to read. The writing was amazing, he said, and inspiring and he was so moved by the experience that he was speechless. Bottom line: must read.
So I tracked down this book, had to get it send from one library to another, and when it finally came and I dove in I felt…iffy.
The writing was indeed amazing, the author insightful and honest. But that... READ MORE

This video was shot by my publisher and friend Tom Grady, who knows how excited I am by the physical process of books! You can see the book running through the machines and heading into boxes to be shipped in a few weeks. To order your copy now, visit Amazon or Aquinas & More—your support is greatly appreciated!
When Good Teachers Make Bad Judgments

A girlfriend of mine has been posed a dilemma.
In an otherwise sound Catholic school—
high academic standards, religion classes faithful to Catholic teaching, and wholesome learning environment—
her freshman child has been assigned a truly wretched book to read.
Not judgment-call wretched. Wretched.
A book which includes incidents I feel I can’t describe here, language the San Francisco Examiner... READ MORE

Greetings from the “quiet room” at my local state university library where I am launching work today on my latest project—an Advent booklet for Catholic families. This resource will be published next year, but as publishing goes the writing begins now, several months in advance of the release date. As always when I begin a new project, I am here to request your prayers and support for this work. This... READ MORE

The approach of a new school year, with its many changes after a long lazy summer, is often a good time to reassess and update the family’s spiritual life as well. In addition, the coming of fall weather makes many of us feel more energized and ready for new challenges. A new challenge you may wish to consider is Catholic Family Boot Camp.
This slender volume give 30 days’ worth of simple activities... READ MORE
