This is going to end badly.

I smell another Terra Nova type series that doesn't last one season.

Having your game tied to something like this can only turn out bad.

@real65rcncom I probably wont even watch the show as I dont have cable tv but I am interested in the game so I dont think the success or failure of the show will denote the success or failure of the game, I think that will be determined by how good the game is regardless of the show.

@real65rcncom - They are making the game independent of the show. They don't even take place in the same city.

Terra Nova completed its first season and in fact got very good as it went on. Sometimes even great TV can take a little time to get its footing. Look at Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Also, Terra Nova may be returning for a second season. Just last week the president of Fox stated that they're looking for a way to make it happen. The problem is not that the show lacked viewers but that it is extremely expensive to produce.

Good point. there ARE some people who will play the game and not watch the show but that's hardly the main point/issue.

The game is actively TIED to the show and was rumored that one would influence the other in ways (things you do in game/things that happen on the show). Whether that was just a pile of PR sales remains to be seen from Trion.

The bigger point is the there is supposed to be a synergy between them and that is the main hook, if you will. So even if a few just like to play any type of game and hate TV, thats not how its being sold or presented to the masses.

Again, only time will tell just how good one or the other is but the vast majority of the time when there is a dual project such as this and one wheel falls off, it normally affects the other in a negative way.. not a positive way.

SyFy themselves certainly aren't know for 'quality' television programs at all and the list of B actors to assail this project is all but guaranteed.

SyFy has some junk shows. It also has some extremely good shows.

Stargate SG-1 wouldn't have run for 10 seasons if it was low quality. It did eventually run out of steam, but that wasn't a lack of quality. Battlestar Galactica was a phenomenal show. Eureka and Haven are both really good current shows.

I challenge you to name any network that has nothing but good stuff. How about any network that has had top-rated shows yet didn't also produce some pure junk. (ABC's "Work It", anyone?)

@real65rcncom

I am more with alucard3000 on this and aurickle does bring up a great point.

Personally, I am not gonna watch it (unless my friend with Cable TV says it is cool and invites me). I'll probably play it. It could definately be a train-wreck were we players see how to do things or manipulate things....or nothing players do does anything because the scripts/filming is done too fast or what-not. Maybe we only get a one-day event to influence the story.

I am just interested in seeing if this works or not; this will be a nice mixed-media experiment and I've always seem to have hope and like those sort of things in other places, too. Given that I said, "hope", I don't have much expectations coming into it. I am kinda wondering how they will turn what I think may be a basic FPS into something that can influence a storyline beyond obvious things like, "Capture this area" or something like that. Of course, limited options and goals can make a player feel he is not a part of something and sour the taste of those that may be into it.

But, if you are young enough and suspend your disbelief and it is a good show...maybe it can work. But I don't think this will be targetted at the right group that would "suspend their disbelief" but there are an awful lot of sci-fi fans, so maybe?

I think the whole idea is crazy, but kudos to Trion and Syfy for being willing to give it a shot. It may end badly, but at least they're trying something new.

Maybe the show will succeed if Joss Whedon gets involved. Oh wait...you can never overestimate the tastes of the American public.

@Braiks...this is Syfy, not sci-fi. There is very little sci-fi on Syfy.

They did make a film last year with Jewel Staite in it, so kudos to them for that. :D

@(Unverified) Dont blame viewers, blame executives. Firefly had great ratings. FOX still pulled it.
