Capcom Starts "Street Fighter" 25th Anniversary Celebration Early

Capcom promises "big plans" and an international celebration for fans of the series

No fighting game does it for me quite like Street Fighter. Hitting that sweet spot between a mindless slobberknocker and a brutal chess match (and sometimes even being ruthlessly technical itself), Street Fighter has also captured the imagination of millions of fans with its memorable, instantly-recognizable cast of characters.

While Street Fighter doesn't turn 25 until August (and make me feel incredibly old in the process), Capcom is starting to celebrate early. From the Capcom-Unity community blog:

"Can you believe Ryu has been throwing fireballs and scarring chests for a quarter century? For 25 years Street Fighter's iconic hero has wandered the globe in search of the perfect battle, and to commemorate his quest - not to mention the millions of fans who've followed him every step of the way - we're preparing some big plans for 2012. The full details of this international celebration are still to come, but I can at least share the official logo that'll emblazon all related products through the year."

You mean this logo? Lookin' good, Ryu!

Aside from Street Fighter X Tekken hitting next month, I'm really looking forward to seeing what we get in the coming year. Personally, I'm hoping for several large collections with the "definitive" versions of each game, because Street Fighter Alpha 3 doesn't feel right without World Tour Mode... or maybe a new MadCatz TE stick with two large pressure-sensitive buttons instead of the standard 6-8 button layout. What about you?

"two large pressure-sensitive buttons"? So we can quickly have a broken one from successfully throwing out a couple of Shoryukens against Eagle?

Man, it's hard to believe how far Street Fighter has come. From an ill-conceived hybrid arcade game whose hardware was in excruciatingly-frequent need of repair to the somewhat-broken game balance genre-defining game leading a Highlander-esque existence.

As to what I'd like to see, either:

1. A version of SF4 where no characters are 'God' tier or 'F' tier.

or

2. A version of Street Fighter with all the characters from every Capcom-created Street Fighter game.

Yeah, I know, neither are going to happen, but the question was posed as to what you would hope to see. Put forth something as impossible as an SF1 controller and I'll put forward something equally as impossible.
AE ver. 2012 at least powered Yun down some.

Honestly, I'm pretty good on rebalances, and not just because I main Cammy. We've played Super Turbo and 3rd Strike for so long in an unchanged state (not counting HDR) that I'd be fine with leaving things as-is--there's no easy way short of making a brand-new game to perfectly rebalance SF4.
Well, Super Turbo and 3rd Strike don't really have God & F tiers, unless you're being really nitpicky (except for Q).

I agree that it's impossible to perfectly rebalance SF4 unless you make a new game (then, it wouldn't be SF4, of course).

It would just be nice if they could remove the God & F tiers (which seems possible since Claw was the #1 character at one point in the development of Vanilla SF4), but Capcom doesn't seem willing to put the work into doing that. That ends up making that hope about as likely as your SF1 TE stick. It's not like I'm going to stop playing, though (at least, after my wrists are fully healed, that is).
ST does have Akuma banned from competition, but he's really the only one that fits into God Tier. 3S just has a "top shelf" of characters and Makoto's big maybe position depending on which side of the Pacific you're playing her.

SF4, on the other hand... yeah, the divisions are a lot more clear. You don't see anybody playing strong with Hakan, or Gouken, or Gen.
Look up infiltration man
Okay, except for Infiltration--that guy who did a first-to-five with Ryan Hart. That was pretty cool.
