On September 20, 2002 Blizzard Entertainment announced StarCraft: Ghost. This tactical action game for the 3 major gaming consoles (PS2, GameCube, Xbox) takes you back to the StarCraft universe up close in the third person perspective.

You play Nova, a highly skilled and well trained Ghost unit aligned with the Human Dominion. Nova has many resources to draw upon to accomplish her goals. These include high tech devices like the (rather form fitting) Hostile Environment Suit to amplify her speed, endurance, and strength, and mysterious psionic abilities like Sight to see through walls.

And if worst comes to worst, Nova can always call down nuclear oblivion from spaceships high in orbit.

In terms of gameplay, StarCraft: Ghost has been described as akin to the Metal Gear Solid games --the emphasis is on stealth and style in addition to the occasional fire fight. However, the camera is not fixed. Instead, it follows Nova around so you can see the action from over her shoulder. You can also rotate it at will.

Furthermore, Blizzard has said in interviews that they want to give players multiple options for succeeding in any given objective, and those options could range from run-and-gun to stealth to more creative tactics. This has also been evident in game demonstrations given at E3 and visits to the Blizzard offices.

Blizzard has also said that players will get the chance to pilot vehicles like the Terran Goliath and other units from the popular real-time strategy game. In fact, seeing the familiar from a new angle seems to be one of the big hooks for the game --especially for StarCraft fans. Nova will encounter Marines, Protoss, and Zerg a-plenty, including several units new to this game.

Finally, it seems it seems that there will be no multiplayer aspect to StarCraft: Ghost. The developers decided that they would rather focus on a killer single-player experience.

Blizzard has also not yet disclosed whether or not SC: Ghost will take advantage of any of the hardware features specific to a console, like the Xbox's hard drive or online capabilities, or the Game Cube's GameBoy Advance connectivity. Stay tuned.
