Celebrate A Co-Op Christmas With Portals

Give the gift of portals to your closest friend this Christmas with these custom co-op maps. Enjoy various lethal activities with your friends such as constructing strategic tower defenses, racing through areas with dangerous amounts of apologetically-aggressive turrets or grab the companion cube for some threesome puzzle solving.

Tower Defense (by PortalCombat): The companion cubes are coming and this time are threatening to stab you and your robot family. This mini-game has no true objective besides making sure the companion cubes never see the exit. You might ask how do the companion cubes move if they have no feet? By floating platforms with companion cubes smuggled ontop of them. A terrific change of pace from your typical ‘I’m so stupid’ puzzle solving adventures.

The Amazing Race (by baca25): Find out who is the better portal-thinker with this competitive race map. Consisting of four chambers for you and your friend, you’ll be tested with quick reaction-based puzzles, long thought-inducing ones and new ideas you’ve never seen before. I recommend using the “+remote_view” from the console commands so you can always have an eye on your competition’s progress without having to press tab (also great for cheating, but you didn’t hear that from me).

Three Companions (by doubledispatch): In this map, the companion cube does not want to stab you and your family, in fact it wants to take you out for a candlelit dinner of cake fun. Featuring all the different puzzle elements that Portal 2 has to offer, this map is a fantastic example of utilizing them all elegantly. Paint with every kind of gel, walk on hard-light bridges and cuddle with your favorite companion cube between your co-op partner to succeed heartily.

Complexo (by jonatan): With a title like Complexo, you know right away that this map will test you and your friends’ mettle, which makes it a must if you love a true Portal 2 challenge. Be prepared to have your mind blown as you work with aerial faith plates, lasers and more to advance through this dastardly clever map. This one even challenged us so post any tips you have in the comments!

Discovery (by MrLate): Another challenge map but with an interesting twist. This campaign has three progressively harder maps with each containing two chambers. Once you finish one map, you will return to the lobby and the map will automatically change, spiffy! The difficulty curve is well-paced and the puzzles are almost Valve-like in terms of accessibility. This is another winner for those who love the typical cooperative puzzle action.

Wallpaper Wednesday: Bastion

If you’ve played Bastion, you’re now reading this in The Narrator’s voice. The indie-action RPG from Supergiant Games was a fantastic hit back on its July 20th 2011 release due to its addictive RPG-elements, interesting narrative and most importantly the art style. Bastion’s world is full of life, which is ironic as the plot focuses on the end of the world. Bring that art to your desktop with these wallpapers.

Monday Mod: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – SkyUI

It’s terrific that that you can see every detail on all the items in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but being a classic PC Gamer I really desire having more information on my screen and better sorting options that work well with mouse and keyboard. Bethesda haven’t provided the most optimal UI for Skyrim, but the modding community sure has answered that call with the SkyUI modification.

Note: The SkyUI modification requires the Skyrim Script Extender Utility to install and function properly. Please download before use!

SkyUI ravamps the user interface while blending in with the original style that Skyrim has. The two-panel play inventory has been changed to a single panel layout featuring icons for each category, mini-icons for each kind of item (axe, bow, etc), smaller text allowing for more information to be displayed, additional information such as item value and weight, and being able to categorize based on value, damage, etc.

All of that is included with an intuitive configuration for keyboards, support for exotic resolutions such as 5760×2160, fully customizable column layout and a full-text search through your inventory. Play Skyrim how it was meant on the computer with this mod! If you need more check out our Skyrim Mods.

A Minecraft Before Christmas

I’m not big on celebrating holidays, especially Christmas. The tedious task of decorating is a major turn-off, and not that I don’t enjoy the decorations but somebody eventually has to take them down. That’s me. This year I found the solution to my decorating woes; I would fill my Minecraft world with several Christmas themed modifications while blindly justifying to my family that it’s as good as real ornaments.

HerSommer A Christmas Carol Texture Pack (by DerSommer): Cubes have a gooey cinnamon roll appearance, trunks of trees look like candy-canes, food looks like gingerbread cookies, and Endermen are dressed as Santa Claus in this Christmas-themed Minecraft texture pack from DerSommer. As a reminder, the Endermen do not want you sitting on their laps.

Christmas Mobs Texture Pack (by DylanOgle2): If you don’t want your world to be filled with candy-cane trees and delicious looking dirt but still would love to beat down a Santa-Claus creeper then this mod is for you. Maintaining all the default textures for the environment, it only dresses the monsters up for the holidays. Candy cane skeletons, Enderman as reindeer, spiders with santa hats and Creepers in their fashionable brown sweater and an eerie smile; what more could you want?

Christmas Village (by jtblion): My next find was a Minecraft map of small village that screamed of Christmas jubilee providing small homes to barricade yourself in case of zombie invasions and a lovely tree to fill your world with holiday cheer. If you’re not a fan of the small village but still desire a tree of your own, I recommend downloading this Christmas Tree mod that provides timber you need.

Christmas Lights (by Conquer): Add some festivity to your home decorating by making your very own Christmas lights. Coming in the “classic” colors blue, red, green and yellow, these lights only required Redstone to be crafted. Maybe the monsters of Minecraft will visit your home not to ransack it, but to adore the fabulous light display you’ve created. The recipes can be seen in the thumbnails below.

Santa Mountain (by Leefield): Avoid getting on the naughty list this year by putting a tribute to Santa in your Minecraft world. Santa Mountain is a custom world that features a gigantic statue of old Saint Nick going through a chimney. This is a great alternative to actually taking your kids to the local mall to see Santa. just don’t let them find out that the statue is hollow and there is a hidden door beneath his beard, leading to a large cavern; we wouldn’t want to ruin someone’s childhood.
