App Store Update: January 6

Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention.

Bit-1 ($1.99)
Wondrously retro platformer Bit-1 is now available. Anyone that misses the days of clearing brutally hard levels all to rescue the princess should give it a look.

Dungeon of the Damned ($1.99)
Dungeon of the Damned combines first-person dungeon crawling with… point and click adventure? We aren't yet sure whether this mash-up is any good, but we're always happy to see developers trying genuinely new things.


Ascendancy ($0.99)
Hardcore sci-fi 4X strategy title Ascendancy is 80% off for a limited time. Be warned – this game is extremely dense. But strategy nuts should be sure to give it a look.

Words with Friends ($0.99)
The ad-free edition of Zynga's addictive turn-based word game Words with Friends is 66% off for a limited time.

Burn it All – Journey to the Sun (Free)
Cute and creative puzzle game Burn it All has gone free, for the very first time since its April debut.

4 Elements HD (Free)
Polished match 3 puzzle game 4 Elements is free for a limited time.
