Notes From The Bunker
Well, today is the New Hampshire primary and the 2012 American election season is really starting up. However, none of the major party candidates speak about the most important issue for me at this moment: the removal of the Thalmor’s insidious presence from Skyrim. For the love of Talos, I may have to abandon conventional politics and throw my lot in with the Stormcloaks!

Winners Of Friday's Contest Announced
A few days ago I was maliciously attacked by Jube’s dogs. Since I’m the type who likes to make lemonade out of lemons, I turned the carnage in my bunker into a mini contest.

Alas, the participants were way off the mark on the random questions, but we had a clause in there that the award could go to the funniest comments. So I have chosen to give the prizes to the three comments that I found the most amusing.

To claim your prizes send an email to ohmwrecker@ve3d.com.

Bethesda V. Interplay Settlement Details Released
- 7 Comments
The final settlement details of Bethesda Softworks LLC v Interplay Entertainment Corp. have been released on the Bethesda blog. Interplay has given up the rights to develop a Fallout MMO or use the Fallout Intellectual property in anyway. However, Interplay may continue selling PC versions of Fallout Tactics, Fallout and Fallout2 through December 2013, at which time the rights to those games revert to Bethesda. Additionally, ZeniMax, Bethesda’s parent company, will pay Interplay two million dollars “as consideration.” This also ends Bethesda’s legal battle against Masthead studios, the Bulgarian company that was developing a Fallout MMO for Interplay. Masthead has agreed that it has no legal right to use the Fallout intellectual property.

Word From Remedy - Max Payne 3 "Phenomenal"

VG247 has a quick quote from Remedy Entertainment's Oskari Hakkinen praising Rockstar's take on the classic series Remedy pioneered back in 2001. It should be music to fan's ears that Rockstar is bouncing Max Payne 3 off of Remedy to ensure that it has the right feel and lives up to the franchise. See the full quote below :

“We’ve been blessed with being able to actually see the game and give some feedback. We’ve been meeting with Rockstar and looking at Max 3 – it looks absolutely phenomenal – the nice thing is we’ve been giving our feeling on the game but at the end of the day we don’t have to do any of the heavy lifting, which is nice. Rockstar don’t make bad games, so you already know it’s going to be good. Just like we hope the Remedy brand is a seal of quality, you know that Rockstar’s brand is a seal of quality. It’s been nice to be part of the process, but we don’t want to take any of the limelight. From what we’ve seen it’s going to be absolutely fantastic.”

Dark Souls For PC Petition - 55,000 Signatures And Counting
- 9 Comments

My level of console involvement is a game of Guitar Hero on my Playstation 2 about a year ago. Even when trying to tune out the console scene, it is impossible to not overhear the praise for Dark Souls. Considered by many to be one of, if not the top game of 2011, console title or not, it has no doubt made a name for itself. Dark Souls continues to bring the brutal difficulty introduced by its predecessor, Demon Souls in 2009.

RPS found a forum post by an admin giving fans some hope that the highly acclaimed game will be ported to the PC.

"There is always possibilities to have games adapted on PC and the good news is that Dark Souls is not a 100% typical Console game so the adaptation is possible. Now to make things happen, let's say the demand has to be properly done. someone to make a successful petition?"

This of course is nothing near any kind of solid plan by Namco Bandai, but has spawned a petition to bring Dark Souls to the PC. It is argued that Namco would be able to bring the series to a whole new market with little risk as well as take advantage of the PC's technical superiority. If you are interested in seeing Dark Souls (no mention of Demon Souls) on PC, you can sign the petition here.

Intel Uses Pre-Recorded Video To Show Off Ivy Bridge Ultrabook At CES 2012
- 12 Comments
Intel have been caught cheating. Their conference at CES 2012 today included a demo of an Ivy Bridge-based Ultrabook running a DX11 game but, just as the demo began, the VLC overlay popped into view. The "demo" was in fact pre-recorded video. It's as unbelievable as it is embarrassing (and hilarious).

First XCOM: Enemy Unknown Screenshots Released, New Info
- 19 Comments
Game Informer tossed up the first screenshots of XCOM: Enemy Unknown today, along with a few tidbits of information from their own hands-on experience with the recently announced strategy reboot by Firaxis. Here's a taste:

Is this a remake of the original?

Kind of. Re-imagining is probably a better term. Firaxis' XCOM: Enemy Unknown doesn't directly copy the underlying game systems – for instance, soldiers have different stats than they did in the 1994 original – but the concepts are still here. Players still have to manage multiple resources and threats on a global scale in a seemingly hopeless war against extraterrestrial forces with far better technology and capabilities.

Is this going to be dumbed down for the "wider console audience"?

Firaxis is undeniably streamlining aspects of the game and removing no small amount of micromanagement, but from what I've seen I wouldn't call it "dumbing down" the game so much as getting rid of tedium and uninteresting mechanics. Soldiers still die permanently, fog of war and line of sight are hugely important in combat, and you absolutely can lose the game if you screw up too badly.

Black Ops 2 A Possibility
IGN reports that Activision has purchased blackops2.com, which could be an indication that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is on the table. Fusible notes that the domain is owned by MarkMonitor, a company that secures domains for Fortune 100 companies, such as Activision. It may seem like a bit of a stretch, but give than Black Ops sold over 14 million copies, it's certainly a possibility.
The Secret World Kicks Off Illuminati Week
- 3 Comments
This week we'll be learning more about the Illuminati society in Funcom's upcoming MMORPG, The Secret World. First, find out what society you belong to. Oddly enough, I'm Illuminati. I was hoping to be something else so that I could skip Illuminati week in favour of eating donuts and watching TV; but I guess I'll have to bone up after all. So, here's a little ditty about the Illuminati:

The Illuminati are invisible puppet-masters and corporate manipulators, and they crave power and wealth by any means necessary. They may have ancient roots, but they remain forever young and hungry. The Illuminati’s golden agents enjoy power, money and glamour – but the real power they offer you goes beyond that: Information worked from every civilian, government and clandestine organization in the world.

To start Illuminati week off, Funcom has released some new artwork, and if you're a Facebook fan then you can access The Secret World Q&A; app to submit questions for Illuminati Week.

Uld is a place where many different races live and where gods try their best to gain more power and influence among their followers. The constant conflict between the gods who seek order and the gods who seek chaos, led to a division among the races living in Uld. Mythos features fast-paced role-playing and hack-and-slash combat in which players can choose from unique races and classes like the Bloodletter, Pyromancer and Gadgeteer. Uld is a living world of fantasy and danger with an endless assortment of dungeons to conquer whether you play by yourself, co-op with friends, or PvP.

Ever wonder where kaka came from? And I don't mean the soccer player. Tee hee kaka plays soccer. Or maybe it's caca. Is it even a real word? I hate to say it, but kaka might remain a mystery for all time. Not that there's much time left, since the world is going to end this year. Can you believe that kaka? I just heard about it. Game developers better release the good titles before December 2012. I have a feeling that when the world ends we'll likely lose power.

What's new with you?

Words to live by.
