Prarthane is a contemporary subject of the total neglect of the Kannada schools and has successfully managed to penetrate a message into the minds of the viewers. Shenoy says that he had thought of directing this film after reading a United Nations report about number of Indian languages including Kannada facing an extinction because of people’s strong preference to the English Language.

Prarthane wins the battle by a perfect casting, engaging screen play by Shenoy and another journalist  J.M.Prahlad and penetrating dialogues.  The artists have done a perfect job with Anant Naga, Prakash Raj and Pavithra Lokesh excelling in their respective roles.

The music of Veera Samarth is quite effective and the Jaya Bharathi song is  sure to haunt you even after you come out of the theatre.

The film starts off with an important sequence showing the plight of a ravaged Kannada  school which is on the verge of collapse due to indifference of authorities and lack of repairs and maintenance.  In the final sequence it will be a victory for the student studying in a Kannada medium school who is pitted against a strong contingent of students belonging to the English medium schools.  Both of the sequences are well picturised.

Films like Prarthane which arouses the consciousness of the Kannadigas needs all encouragement.   After watching Prarthane, you would certainly realise it is a wakeup call for all the Kannadigas to put all efforts to save  and further develop the language.
