I even played Demons Souls, thus you can't say Dark Souls brings innovative play, when it was a carbon copy of Demons. I'm not saying the game was bad, DS was an immersive game but it was unbalanced. Demons had the difficult just right, however in Dark Souls the difficult level was all over the place, with just some cheap deaths. I finished Demons Souls 2 times because it was rewarding to the very end. In Dark Souls, many times I just won because of luck. Not to mention the impossibility to play with friends. In my book Skyrim had provided me a much better experience. It's vast and compelling and just satisfactory in every aspect.
The combat in Dark Souls is about 100 times better thanthat in Skyrim, so that's criterion enough for it win in my book.

I finally decided to give Dark Souls a look and rented it the other night. It did not take long for me to decide on returning the rental and purchasing the game. So far it meets everything I was expecting it to be from this video and all the other feedback I have read/seen.
Nice choice GameTrailers.

............The winner was a Japanese RPG. Also this was mostly a list for an obvious western focused point of view. Though I agree most of the games on this list are amazing. There were a few JRPGs that came out this year that were pretty decent too. Sure most of them were on a portable system, but that shouldn't exclude them. Also if Darksouls and Deus Ex are RPGs then so is Zelda. I agree that what is on the list is great, but if this were my list it would be a bit different.
