THE HISTORICAL MEMORIALS

The historical and cultural centre “Grand Embassy” with the exposition “Koenigsberg-Kaliningrad is a Gate from Russia to Europe” is located in the Koenig Gates. The Koenig Gates are a visiting card of the old city and a fortification monument of the XIX century.

The exhibition building “Poterna” is located in immediate proximity to the Koenig Gates; it is a footway hidden by an external earth-deposit which connected internal defensive belt with external fortifications. Restoration of the “Poterna” was finished in 2008 and an exposition dedicated to archeological sea findings was created.

The exposition “Maritime Koenigsberg-Kaliningrad” is located in a restored port warehouse (the middle of the XIX century) of the same name. The heart of the exposition is an archeological finding the “Ship of the XIX Century”.

The exhibition building “Packgaus” is located in a restored port warehouse. Nowadays it is equipped with modern exhibition facilities and a climate control system. The building can receive exhibitions of the highest level.

The Friedrichsburg Gate are a new object of the Museum of the World ocean. It is one of the most interesting historical monuments in the city. After restoration it is planned to create an exposition dedicated to the history of the Fredericksburg fortress and to Peter I who was an initiator of the Russian Fleet and nautical science.

In the nearest future the museum plans to construct a new expositional building and create an exposition “The World Ocean”, to build a “Visit-centre” and a yacht harbor “Marina”, to locate an internet-café “Most” (a bridge) in a former railway bridge post and create a museum “Berega” (shores) in Svetlogorsk and an exposition “Russia at the Baltic” in the “Elizabeth’s Fort”.
