Six in the CityOur City Spy Faran Krentcil Hears Everything... And She Doesn't Keep Secrets

A group of glossy girls in this city use the verb perch the way most of us would toss out party. To them, a bash is nothing more than another opportunity to pose for society snapper Patrick McMullan, then leave. But at the Whitney Art Party, it was a different scene. “This is a dance party,” said Lou Doillon, who’s quickly becoming my favorite French import. “There is no standing around here!” Lou headed to the dance floor, where Sean Lennon was trying to tempt Victoria’s Secret’s new face, Behati Prinsloo, into the fray and Tinsley Mortimer and Fabiola Beracasa took a brief, dazzling turn with Barbara Bush and Maggie Betts. Even Rachel Bilson waded into the spotlight, her Hervé Léger dress so short and tight, it looked like a retro swimsuit. Hockey star Sean Avery didn’t dance—he was double-fisting beers while examining a Will Cotton drawing. He was also so cool that I melted into geek mode and blurted, “Oh my gosh, I so love you.” He heard. He turned. I ran, almost stepping on James Franco as I fled to the bathroom—a wise escape, since, yeah, I love him too.

Jessica Stam's New Man

Won’t you be my neighbor? Models Jessica Stam (above) and Daisy Lowe reportedly share a downtown love nest address.

She may be most famous for dating 45-year-old guitarist Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but 22-year-old model Jessica Stam has moved on to someone closer to her own age. After taking over for Nicole Richie as the girlfriend of DJ AM, Jessica is now unofficially shacked up with Austin Cregg, the 23-year-old NYU-grad son of Huey Lewis. The pair is said to be nesting in the same Soho building as Kieran Culkin and It girl model Daisy Lowe, who—rumor has it—will be the star of the upcoming Brit reality show The Hills: London. Who needs The Real World in Brooklyn when we’ve got this cool kid coterie right here in Manhattan?

Lauren Conrad: Shut Up and Drive

The Hills’ Lauren Conrad says she’s sick of people “thinking all I do is shop all day,” but she’s not doing much to dispel her dizzy image. “I’m obsessed with my new Mercedes convertible because it helps me get tan,” she told me at lunch. LC also admitted she’d been in a car accident “because I was using my BlackBerry while driving. Oops!” She doesn’t drive while intoxicated—just intexticated.

Lovely Day Set to Get Even Better

Lovely Day will be even lovelier once it serves liquor.

Soho babes and star watchers alike know that Lovely Day on Elizabeth Street is a great place to spot the famous: It’s Sienna Miller’s favorite restaurant, Lindsay Lohan’s coffee brewer of choice, Josh Hartnett’s lunch hangout and model Gemma Ward’s tea spot. But the best-dressed kids in the city are typically only allowed to crowd its famous stoop until 11:30 p.m., when they get kicked off—though that’s about to change. After waiting a year for its liquor license, it seems the cafe is almost ready to transform its downstairs space into a bar this fall. And if its daytime clientele is any indication, the restaurant may give us boldface nights in addition to its lovely days.

Question of the Week

WHICH downtown New York boîte has designated one of its bathrooms for the toilet, and another for coke use? The waitresses tell you which line is which if the queues get too long.

Season 5 of Project Runway starts July 16, but big changes are afoot for season 6—Lifetime is in and Bravo is out; sponsor Marie Claire is in and Elle is out; L.A. is in and NYC is out. Oh, and Jeff Zucker, president of Bravo’s parent company, NBC Universal, is suing executive producer Harvey Weinstein for taking the show to a different network. But Harvey finally promised that one thing will remain the same: Michael Kors, Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn and Nina Garcia, whose position was in question after Elle said auf Wiedersehen to the fashion director, will all return. At last week’s Peabody Awards, Harvey said, “The chemistry between these four is unbelievable. We struck the mother lode. We’re all going to be united going forth.” But even Harvey gets uneasy around a certain cast member. Asked who was the best-dressed person in the room, he said, “Heidi Klum. I have to live!”

Parents-to-be Keith and Nicole shared a Kodak moment.

Will Nicole Kidman sell her baby’s first photos to the tabloids? If so, hubby Keith Urban should be the photographer. Though she famously ducks and covers when pursued by the paparazzi, Nicole was a total poser at a recent Friday night performance of Boeing-Boeing on Broadway, allowing Keith to prop her up onto the wall near the Longacre Theater’s bar to take camera-phone photos, all tourist-like. Though the play snapped up a few Tony Awards, one show-goer only had eyes for Nicole. “She giggled incessantly,” the eyewitness says. “You couldn’t not look at her—she glows.”
