Peggy and PJ

Peggy and PJ

Wednesday 3 August 2011, 1pm - 1.45pm & 2.30pm - 3.15pm

Dave Pegg (Fairport Convention's bassist since 1969, Jethro Tull's from 1979-1995) and singer-songwriter PJ Wright (guitar, vocals of Little Johnny England since 1998, Steve Gibbons Band 1980-99) met while recording the first Dylan Project album and quickly recognised their shared musical tastes and influences.

Regularly touring together since spring 2006 they have developed a witty, visual stage-act, building a following on their overlapping fan-base. The show features original material from the critically acclaimed debut CD Galileo's Apology (now on iTunes!), interesting and very musical nods to their past, based around well-spun anecdotes and tales from their decades as working musicians.

Thursday 4 August 2011, 1pm - 1.45pm & 2.30pm - 3.15pm

Following the release of their 2009 CD a.h.a.b., Callum Adamson and Dave Burn were invited to play at the famous 'Tootsies Orchid Lounge' during Nashville's Country Music Awards week festival in Nashville, Tennessee. They recruited Seebs Llewellyn and Luke Price and spent a week playing two shows a day to packed house and were given an invite to record at Warner Studios in Nashville.

Returning to London, the new line up was made permanent and they spent two months busking in London until Bob Harris invited them to record a session for his Saturday night BBC Radio 2 programme, in August 2010. Following on from that, in October they recorded a 5 track EP which Bob Harris offered to launch at the BBC Club. In 2011 a.h.a.b. played their first national tour, of over 20 shows, to sold out crowds.

The Mark Butcher Band

The Mark Butcher Band

Friday 5 August 2011, 1pm - 1.45pm & 2.30pm - 3.15pm

If Eric Clapton says "Great stuff!" about anyone's music, pay attention! Best known for a highly successful career in first class cricket, Mark is now concentrating on music: recording, playing live and taking up opportunities as diverse as dueting on National TV with Sarah Brightman, to trading licks with Albert Lee and Bill Wyman and opening for The Straits at the Royal Albert Hall.

Mark started playing guitar at 13 and was already writing and playing live regularly before signing with Surrey County Cricket Club, so music has long been an integral part of his life. Influenced by the likes of Al Green, Robert Cray, Freddie King, Mavis Staples, Little Feat, Stevie Wonder, Small Faces, Eric Clapton and Bonnie Raitt, his style is a classy blend of heartfelt blues and soul.

Adrian Edmondson and the Bad Shepherds

Adrian Edmondson and the Bad Shepherds

Friday 5 August 2011, 7.15pm - 8pm & 9pm - 10pm

The Bad Shepherds play punk songs on folk instruments. Not as a gag, but because they really like the noise. They think the songs are better than people remember. They love folk instruments. It works. They do songs by The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Stranglers, The Jam, Sham 69, The Undertones, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks, The Specials, Talking Heads, Squeeze and others, even Kraftwerk! Alright, they're not all punk, but they come from roughly the same era.

They've mostly given the songs a kind of Celtic feel, and they've stuck in the odd reel and jig here and there. But occassionally they just thrash! They've always thought the excitement of a reel taking off is the nearest thing to the excitement of watching punk live in the 70's.
